Bad idea?
« on: November 22, 2010, 18:37:24 pm »
Hi all, I was at a retirement party yesterday with DS and DSD (10yo). She was having a ball, eating all the mini sanwiches and tons of dill pickiles. She asked if she could let ds (8mo) taste the pickle, I said why not! So, he tasted it and LOVED it! Seriously, panted like a dog at the sight of it! So, I'm wondering if they're ok as a finger food? I know they are salty, but what if I find a low sodium one and rinse the juice off? Is it still a bad idea?

Well, I think that is your discretion!!  T loved pickles and still does, I can't remember when we started letting him have some but I'm sure it was before a year.  The big problem, like you mentioned, is the salt.  So, like everything, moderation is key.  You really don't want him to be having that much salt, but if you find a lower salt variety then I'm sure offering one on occasion is fine.  Maybe rinse them off first as well to try to get rid of as much of the brine as possible, like you said.  If it were me, I think it's okay once in awhile.  ;)
