Waking every 45mins from ~04:00 onwards
« on: November 23, 2010, 06:44:53 am »
Hi,
First, I just want to say that this is an amazing site, and thank you all! Just reading it has helped me so many times!

My DS is almost 15 weeks old and is very spirited.
We started with EASY, but for the past month now I am not successful in following it, partially because of BF problems, and partially because he is a horrible napper (45 mins on the clock, unless in stroller...)
After rough time with sleep training, for the past 2 weeks we are putting him to sleep using shh/pat and paci (always cries during the windown, usually will spend some time on hands, but sometimes will fall asleep without being picked up)
At night he used to be more comfortable, going to sleep around 19:30 and waking up to eat around 01:00 and 05:00, and between 06:00-07:00 to start his day.
For the past week he has been waking up 1-3 times until 04:00 and from 04:00-05:00 he will only ‘nap’ with 45 min cycle, and crying extensively while we try shh/pat to put him to sleep.
I am pretty sure that waking up from 04:00 onwards is not a hunger issue. I assume that improving his ability to fall asleep on his own will help both nap and night issues, but I am not sure how to do this.
Anyone had similar issues? Any thoughts?
Thanks you so much!!

Hi there
It's been a while since my two were that tiny (!) but 2 things spring to mind straight away. Firstly, there is a huge growth spurt typically at 16 weeks and it is very normal for them to suddenly eat like monsters. I bet he is gearing up for this, and is actually hungry. I think it lasts about a week normally?
The other thing I thought of is, could he be cold? My ds's room is very cold at night and if he is not warm enough he does the 'napping' thing in the early hours of the morning, it's like he's not comfortable enough to go back in to a deep sleep, kwim?
Hope this helps
Kathryn
