Solids, what did you start your LOs on?
« on: November 27, 2010, 06:48:39 am »
I was wondering what you ladies started your LOs on first. I have a 4.5 month DS who shows all the signs of being ready to start solids. So I am planning on offering him his first taste when he's 5 month God willing.

My first DS I started him with rice cereal when he was also 5 month and he became quite constipated, so I don't want to start DS2 on baby rice. I would like to start him on veg and I was just wondering which one I should start him on.

TIA.

with both it was carrot, sweet potato, parsnip, brocolli and we took it from there really....

with Emma I did full BLW so she was over 6 mths and eating steamed cubes rather than purees but esentially the same food...

We started on pear first, then apple, carrot and then I would do a mix of all three.
Then veg - sweet pot, carrot, courgette.
I remember spinach, potato and leek was a fav too ;D

Pear, sweet potato and butternut squash are all excellent starter foods.  :)

We started at about 5 months and worked our way up from the least desirable foods (peas, green beans) and then better tasting veggies (squash, carrots, sweet potato) and then finally, fruits (pears, applesauce, prunes).  All this was over about a 1.5-2 month time period.  Our pediatrician advised us to work from less tasty (green veggies) to sweeter with the logic being that if you start them on sweeter foods, then it would be much harder for them to accept eating those peas and beans.  Personally, I am planning on skipping those all together with DD2 who is 2.5 months.  My DD1 never ate the green veggies as baby food, but absolutely loves veggies now.

I started with pears, then sweet potato, then banana, then squash, then apple, then carrots. Some people say veggies first but I didn't really follow that and DD eats fruits and veggies and loves both. Seeing her react to the flavors was so much fun!!!

We started with pumpkin.  Then pear.  Then apple and carrots.  Then banana.  So much fun adding new foods every 3 or so days!  Have fun!!

my doctor suggested starting fruits first since fruits are sweeter and harder for them to go back on stuff not as sweet.
I would start with the orange veggies such as squash, carrots and sweet potato. for green veggies we tried green beans first and my son liked it!
