HELP :( im so sleep deprived 11m old night waking
« on: November 29, 2010, 04:00:55 am »
How old is your child?  12m on 21st december

What’s his/her daily routine?
wake 6am (sometimes earlier, very rarely later) breakfast 6.30
'school run' with big bro

What’s nap routine?
good day
3hr - 3.5hrs after waking so 9.30 ish.... between 45 mins and 90mins
2.30pm ish ... unless not ready by time school run comes round and then will wait until 4pm as wont sleep in buggy

bad day
begins at 4.30am and will therefore need 3 naps to make it thru

How long are naps?
45mins - 90mins depends on timing

What's bedtime routine? Time?
dinner 5pm
bath 6pm
3oz cup of milk 7pm story and sleep

Do you bottle or breastfed??How much? or how long?

gradual into of formula since oct up to 9oz day, stopped BF 1 week ago...struggled for last month with v limited milk & only continued as nasty tummy bug starting 3 wks ago poss left jakob with a bit of difficulty digesting formula (Hipp Org) so have had to gradually intro again. only on 6oz a day, any more and he burps a lot and is sick.  GP says to gradually intro, ive considered a proper lactose intol but he seems to cope with 6oz so planning to persevere at present

How many wakes per night?
1 -3
has only slept once through the night

What’s your LO like when waking at night? How long is he/she up?
only recently stopped 10pm feed when BF stopped. prev woke up, fed and slept immediately and had been going through after thet for several nights before tummy bug :(
now wakes between 9.30 and 1 .......

before 11pm usually has a drink and goes off again
after 11pm sometimes drinks but often too distressed, teething powder often works and goes off agin
last 3 nights he has arched and screamed for about 45 mins

When you go to him/her is she fussing or crying? Or is it a mantra cry?
screaming

What have you tried to settle??
teething powder, calpol, PUPD

What do you do for A time and how long is it?
last 3 nights 30 - 45 mins PUPD

Are there developmental issues such as teething or milestones?
teething and starting to walk and talk
has been staying with gparents 2 x weekly while im working for 1 month...doesnt cry to be left, he enjoys it but as soon as he sees me he wants me...climbs my leg and sucks thumb

Do they have a prop? If so what is it?
no, just thumb which has got more frequent. sucks very hard at night

Do they have a lovie?
a blankie? not one that hes attached to

im up again at stupid o clock, after 1hr 30mins screaming i cant sleep

Jakob wouldnt be consoled tonight, PUPD (not lifting out of cot just placing back down) for 10 mins, drink and calpol, PUPD again for 20 mins. got so distressed he was struggling to breathe so i picked him up and he stopped crying/sucked thumb but as soon as i put him down started up again.  i couldnt cope in the end and had to leave him as i could feel myself getting frustrated...usually i can zone out and not let it bother me but im exhausted after a 4am start yday, my 4yo off school for wkend, house upside down with building work and following a horrible cold...no excuse i know i feel bad anyway which is why im still awake!

in the day he often goes down for a nap without a murmur, usually 2 PUPD,suck thumb and gone  ;)
i feel i cant get a routine going with 4am starts and/or school runs.

wake to sleep doesnt seem to work as his waking is irregular and when ive tried it at 10pm he still wakes about an hour or so later and seems more frustrated.

i know hes not having much milk and plan to intro an afternoon cup of milk when he can tolerate it, i try every 2 days.  even a yogurt at lunch can tip him over the edge into a constant burping session and being sick.  he is a great eater otherwise and was baby led weaned at 6m

 ??? ??? ??? im soooooooooooo tired :(((((

Hi there, have you tried ibuprofen for his teeth?  I would dose at bedtime and then about 6 hrs into his night sleep.  Also, could you post the day in EAS so we can see the feeds and naps...at 11 nearly 12 mths he needs 1 long nap + 1 shorter nap, my LO was on a 20 min AM nap + 2/2.5 PM nap.  So it's time to think about the 2-1 for him.  Have a look at this link:

E 6am & 8am & 11am
A struggled to put him down despite looking tired from 8ish and showing signs. just standing in cot laughing! tried at 8.30/9.30/10.30/11.00
S 12 - 12.45   seems tired on waking but no distubances in house
E 1.30pm
A
E snack and milk 3pm
A
S 20 mins 4pm
A
E dinner at 5pm
A bath then milk from 6pm
S 7pm...
A woke for a drink at 11pm - water and straight back to sleep no problem
S 11pm

monday
A 4.45am Put down easily but woke 10 mins later and cried (didnt feel i could let him cry too long as big bro has been ill and needs sleep for school and he seemed wide awake pushing me away from him and leaning backwards)
E 5.30 am
A played with big bro who woke up anyway and looks exhausted but doesnt want to miss out!!! (on what??? grumpy mommy???)
S 7am falls asleep standing up!
A 7.30 big bro woke him up making a noise getting ready for school
E 8am
A school run
S 9am falls asleep on the way to friends
A 9.10 as car stops
S 11am falls asleep on way to 2nd friends (xmas pressie runs)
A 11.10 wakes as car stops!
E 11.30 & 12.30 long lunch in 2 sittings lol!
A
S 1pm falls asleep on way home so i sit in car writing xmas cards as i dont want to disturb him this time!!!
A 3pm for school run
E 3.30
A
E 5pm
A bath & milk
S bed by 7pm

i used to have a lovely routine when i was breastfeeding 3hrly lol! it seems to be getting worse and worse.  sleeps often coincide with the school runs and he rarely sleeps in the buggy.

he doesnt seem ravenous when he wakes but he is on v little milk 7-10 oz a day, but eats much more then his big bro who is 4.5 (baby led weaned, no purees).  we have in desperation put him in our bed but hes unsettled, sucks thumb and relaxes about a minute then gets up and crawls over our heads.

he wakes generally between 9.30 and 1am needing a drink of water and settles quickly unless im not there (v unusual tho) and my husband doesnt do well settling him!!! so hes up for an hour.  hes quite clingy with me at the moment

he will wake between 4.30am and 6am.... 5.30 actually feels like a lie in now!

id appreciate any help, i realise i need more of a routine but cant seem to suss it out as the school run always seems to fall just at the wrong time

i dont like to medicate 'just in case' and tend to use teething powders unless hes really bothered with teeth. i wouldnt wake him to medicate, i dont know if a lot of you will disagree with that but i would never have a paracetamol in anticipation of a headache, just seems wrong to me.

help help help!!!!!!
