What milk can I use for cooking?
« on: December 03, 2010, 17:41:41 pm »
Hi there

Couldn't find anywhere on the forum and i am not allowed to search the forum for some reason so...

We are trying our DD on Nutramigen (again) but I can't add that stuff to her cereal, it makes it taste really bitter! So what do you use instead? Paed suggested goats milk, but I'm not sure if it may also cause a reaction... What other alternatives are there? She is 6 months old

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't use goat's milk - if she's on hypoallergenic formula I'm assuming MPI or MSPI? Goat's milk is quite similar to cow's milk and is likely to cause a reaction also. If she's fine with soy you could use soy milk, or if you would prefer not to you could use rice milk, oat milk, or the like. You can use the nutramigen for cooking too though, and then you know you're safe!! :)

Rice milk has a decent taste. I buy it by the case at Costco.  I use it for everything in cooking. It does not thicken like cows milk, so it makes chocolate soup instead of pudding. I did read on here that hemp milk thickens most like cow's milk.

I tried Nutramigen for cooking and my DD frowned at me :) so will need to do something else, oat milk sounds good, she likes oats!

We still are not sure if she is MPI/MSPI or just reflux or both... Hence a try of nutramigen     Since the increase in omeprazole didn't make a difference
