Weaning Chart:  The First Twelve Weeks

Taken from Secrets of the Baby Whisperer, Chapter 4:  The E - Whose Mouth Is It Anyway?

Quote (selected)
The following twelve-week schedule is based on weaning a six-month-old child.  You will do the morning feed as usual, breast or bottle, and serve "breakfast" two hours later.  "Lunch" should be midday and "dinner" late afternoon.  Complete breakfast and dinner by finishing off on the breast or bottle.  Remember that every baby is different; ask your pediatrician what's right for yours.

Week - Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner - Comments

1 - Pears, 2 tsp - Bottle or breast - Pears, 2 tsp

2 - Pears, 2 tsp - Bottle or breast - Pears, 2 tsp

***Please remember that there are a lot of different resources available for weaning solids.  These are Tracy's guidelines, but as always it is up to you as the parent to research and do what you feel is best for your baby***

Moderator comment:
- The 4 milk feeds (WU, mid morning, mid afternoon, BT) remain in place when introducing solids.  The solids meals do not replace milk feeds at this stage.  "Finishing off on the breast or bottle" after solids is in addition to the regular milk feeds, as a drink at the end of the meal, rather than a milk feed replacement.
- There is an alternative 6 week starter plan in Secrets of the Baby Whisperer for Toddlers, p 122 - 123, which introduces different foods more rapidly and shows how milk feeds are maintained.
- Tracy advised early introduction of finger foods (at 7 months), SoBWfT, p 121
