Is DD eating enough? What should I feed her?
« on: December 09, 2010, 22:04:40 pm »
Hi ladies!  Finally, my DD has started eating table food instead of purees!!  YAY!  For so long she would just gag at any kind of table food!!  LOL!  So, now that she is eating table food hwo do I know how much to give her?  And what kinds of foods should I give her for breakfast/lunch/dinner?  So far she has had for breakfast...scrambled egg yolk, toast, waffle, yougart.  For lunch...mac & cheese, grilled cheese, fruit.  For dinner...she will eat what we have usually unless it's something she doesn't like or can't eat, then I will give her some veggies/fruit.  With every meal she gets a sippy cup of water or juice or milk.  She also drinks about 12-16oz of formula a day.  So how do I know I'm giving DD enough at meal times.  For example, today for breakfast I made her 1 scrambled egg yolk & 1 piece of toast.  For lunch she had a half of a grilled cheese sandwhich & I tried giving her some kiwi but she didn't like it so I gave her some pureed apples & bananas (about 2-3oz).  Another day she had for breakfast, 1 waffle & some yougart.  I just feel so overwhelmed about something that shouldn't be so complicated!  LOL!  I guess I need some more variety too!  Anyone give their LOs cold cereal, like cheerios & milk?  What other things could I give her for lunch?  Thanks everyone!  Sorry this is so long!

Oh I'm sorry, that would help!  LOL!  DD is 10 1/2 months old, she will be 11 months on the 19th.

Well, sounds like she's doing great!  Give her as much as she wants.  Offer a good variety and let her choose what to eat and how much.  Her formula intake is a bit on the low side, but things like yogurt and cheese as well as milk added to her meals will count towards her milk intake.  She should be getting about 21-30oz of milk a day (including any dairy you offer).  See here for milk amounts when on solids:  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=57483.0

Some ideas are:
eggs (scrambled, hard boiled, or omlettes are great because you can add things like veggies, ham, and cheese)
toast or bagels with melted cheese or cream cheese
cheese and crackers
breadsticks and dips
rice cakes
fruit and veggies
soup (I like to make really chunky soups with veggies and pasta and then scoop out the chunky bits for my LOs)
healthy cereals, oatmeal or granola
beans, bean burgers
meatballs (you can add all sorts of great stuff to them like chopped veggies or quinoa, and you can use beef, chicken or turkey)
pasta (very versatile, can serve hot or cold will all sorts of different sauces and ingredients)
sweet potato fries or chips (you can also use other root veggies to make baked veggie chips)

You might find some more ideas here:

I would say pretty much anything healthy goes.  Just stay away from added salt and excess sugar.  :)

Thank you so much for all the great information & help!  Yes, DD has always been a poor milk drinker!  It just recently got a little lower then usual.  She never wants her lunch time bottle.  I just give her milk in a sippy at that time & she usually drinks some of that.  The pedi is aware of this & tells me to just make sure she gets it in her foods.  Well, thanks again for all your help!
