EASY and the end of the day-8 weeks
« on: December 15, 2010, 15:32:37 pm »
My DD2 has been doing EASY since the start or atleast a variation of it.  We AP when she doesn't sleep well, about half the time, as she is still so young.

The end of the day is pretty messy and we end up holding her for hours.  It is worst on bath night, so every other night. Not sure what we should be doing...can someone take a look please?

On a good day
E 8:00
S 9:15 ish-11:00
E 11:00
S 12:15 ish-2:00
E 2:00
S 3:15 ish - 5:00
E 5:00
A watch us eat dinner in bouncy chair or low key

THis is where it gets all crazy... ???

CN between 6:00 and 6:30 for 45 mins IF she settles, usually in sling
A bath every other day or low key
S this varies as we have to seriously AP her, she cries or just rubs her face in our chest.  Usually try to have her swaddled within 1 hour from wake up from CN so sleep or ready for around 8:00
No dreamfeed, she wakes around 1:30 am and again around 5:00 ish.

Sorry no help...but I am right there with you! For some reason I cannot figure out this catnap thing & bath nights are insane! I dont know if it is because it is stimulating or what!?!

From the looks of your easy maybe try cutting back a bit on her A. We did that because it seemed like LO was OT by end of day so we cut back here & there and that has helped!

We have cut back by 5 on the a time which made better nap times but end  of the day is really hard and no real routine.  Last night she wouldn't settle.  Then when she did she slept for an hour.  I woke her for a clusterfeed before bed and she just went right back to sleep.  If it had been bath night, it would have been horrible having to wake her...this time of the day is the only time she cries.

So what is the deal with that, does anyone know?  I think they are in cahoutes (sp?) together!!! :)
What is the A time supposed to be before the CN and after the CN?  Generally?

Hi there :)
Just from the looks of your EASY, it may be that she's getting too much sleep during the day? Every baby's different for sure...three naps of 1.5 hours plus a catnap is a good day for a 1-3 month old (http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=85130.0). Perhaps she's just ready for bed when the catnap comes around, esp if she gets up at 5am? Does she wake and stay awake at 5am?

A catnap is not a restorative nap. So they'll be really tired after 45 minutes. It's just a small little bridge to tide her over until bedtime.

Also, bathtime can be really really stimulating. Some times just a wet rub with a towel can suffice. Bathtimes were always hard for us in the early months as she was a roaring mess by bedtime. I couldn't go out anywhere bc I'd be so scared that she'd start screaming as soon as she got home :'(

Hope that helps a bit.

Hi Jiinx, no she doesn't get up at 5:00 she just has a little sip and goes back down until 8ish.  She is on an 8 to 8 routine.  I agree that the 45 min nap is not restorative so we usually try to have her in bed pretty soon after bath and breastfeed.  We dread the bath so much we do give her a cloth wash down alot of the time and she goes an extra day!  Poor little girl!
The problem is if she does part of her day with 3 naps, once she is up she is really cranky even on good days.  We really think it is related to timing at the end of the day.  Also she doesn't sleep through her naps so in the middle she is up which can build up OT, I'm sure!
We just needed an extra pair of eyes!

I don't know if I helped...what is she doing when she wakes during her naps? Do you help put her back to sleep? Does she wake during ALL naps?

Of course, any ideas helps Jiinx!
Some days she can sleep through naps and other days she just starts to fuss and turn her head back and forth and won't fall back down.  She also is Auzzie swaddled so her hands are close to her mouth and soemtimes she wakes cause she tries to suck them and then can't really and gets upset.  I posted something on the props board about that (wondering if it was even worth swaddling at this point?)
She sleeps best on her side so I sometimes roll her over when she wakes and she sometimes goes back to sleep on her own.  Other times she just looks around with wide eyes.  She's kind of all over the board.  If she can't go back down, I pick her up and hold her and shh/patt and when she's pretty sleepy or her eyes are closed, I put her back.  Sometimes it works, other times she wakes.  I can't ssh/pat in her play pen in the day cause it hurts my back and I have a 23 month old and he starts hanging off me or demanding something out of jealousy.  Her room is upstairs so she is in a pack and play in the day.  No way around that, DS1 is too young to be alone downstairs.
Considering that other people have similar problems, I think its just developmental and age related.  She can't be whispered to sleep yet, she's still learning!

PS:  I just noticed you're from TO, I love when I see other Canadians!  I started a thread on the regional board once the weather is better, we may have a meet up.

Hi there!
I persevered and kept her in a swaddle until 5 and half months. then at 6 months I transferred her into a sleep sac. Is it is useful until they unlearn their moro reflux.

Oh it must be so hard with another toddler around :( I can't imagine how I'm going to do when I have another one.

For sure. A meet up would be lovely.

We did the swaddle with DS1 until he was 4 months and then I was tired of him busting out so we put him in a sleep positionner.  Atleast it was just one arm at a time.  She will be unswaddled sooner as I had to transition from the swaddle to the Auzzie swaddle already!  I wish she could stay there longer as I know the benefits.

Another toddler around is a challenge.  Some days are ok but others are crazy when DS1's routine for eating and nap coincides with her time to eat or be put down.  I have moved his lunch and dinner around to make it easier sometimes.  It works out thought and it will get better (the  hope keeps me going!).

*hugs* it does. You're so positive and optimistic :) That's wonderful.

If you want to go through your daughter's day again, please do come back and post her EAS :)
