8 week old - waking every hour at night-PLEASE HELP!
« on: December 16, 2010, 14:47:56 pm »
I'm at wit's end - I'm unable to function during the day to tend to my older children because DS2 is up alllll night.
Well, not really. He is on a 7-7 routine, and he sleeps well from 7 till about 1 or 2 am (give or take an hour). After that, he's up every hour, hour and half. The worst times are after 4 am, where he can be waking every 30 minutes to 45 minutes!
This has been going on for 6 days, with one "okay" night thrown in there.
Last night he slept great from 6:30-1 am, with a Dream feed at 10:30. I can't go to sleep with him at 6:30, because I have two older ones to be with and put to bed.
Do you think it would be worth it to make DS2's bed time much later, so he sleeps the 6-7 hour stretch during the time we sleep? How do I go about changing to that kind of a schedule? Is it as easy as waking DS around 8 or 9 for an hour or so?
What would our start of day be like then?
What are your recommendations/advice?

How is baby fed?
When my son was a newborn he did that also when I switched from bottle feeding to breast. ( hospitalized until 2 weeks old then breast fed once he came home)
I found doing breast compressions really helped and no snacking... Once he had good feeds he slept longer.

DS is EBF. He feeds every 2 1/2 -3 hours, except for a cluster feed at around 5:30 or 6, and the stretch of time that he sleeps well at night. During the night, I feed him only if he's awake and I notice that 3 or more hours have passed. Otherwise, I pat him back to sleep and give him a pacifier.

Last night we let DS have an extra 3 hour cycle, putting him to bed at 8 and cluster feeding at 9 (right back to bed after cluster feed). He woke at 12, 4, and 7, which was much more manageable for me. We started the day at 7 because he was wide awake and pooping. We're trying it again tonight. Do you think this is going to get us into OT?
