how long should a 4 week old BF for??
« on: December 16, 2010, 15:28:55 pm »
Hi, as i have been trying to do E.A.S.Y pretty much since my DS came home from the hospital, i am a lil confused as to how long he should be feeding?

I only offer him 1 breast as i like to make sure it is emptied. he will normally last between 10-15mins.
Is this long enough?

And when he is finished i am unable to tell when he is tired to put him back to sleep??

Thanks in advance  :)

They are all so different! My friend's newborn BFs for 45 mins at a time, my LO was like yours and would be finished after 10-15 mins. When you think he's done, give him a burp and try again, sometimes the burp makes a little room for some more ;)

Little ones this young really can't last much more than 60-75 mins awake - that includes feeding time - so look out for a yawn at around 45 mins, or start your wind-down at about 50 mins even if you haven't spotted a tired sign yet! At this age there's very little chance of them being undertired

No, your EASY will stay the same. A is awake time - it includes feeding time - so an A time of 45 mins is awake time of 45 mins, whether baby is feeding for 10 or for 30 mins of that.
