early waking at 6, with wake up time at 7?
« on: December 20, 2010, 13:46:02 pm »
Hi all, my 12 wk old LO has been doing some early waking, and I'm not sure if I should let him get up at that time or try pat/shh to get him back to sleep.

There are 2 scenarios that are happening.  Either A, he is waking from 5 for his first night feed, and then after he falls asleep but wakes at 6, or B, he is waking at 6:20 for his first feed, but won't go back to sleep.  He isn't wide awake in either scenario, but he takes about 30 minutes to get back to sleep if it's possible, and then by that time he sleeps past the awake time and it throws off the routine.

So I was just wondering if we need to set 6 as his new awake time?  It used to be 7-7:30, but when we put him back to sleep when he wakes up at 6:20 or so, he'll be asleep by 6:50, so he'll sleep past 7:30 if I let him.  Or do we handle the night wakings a different way, and if so which way?

Thank you for any responses!

Can you post your current EASY?  That will help us to try to see what's going on. :D

Sorry I haven't responded, my family is in town for the holidays!

Here is a general idea of EASY for us:

Up from 6-7:30 depending on whether he does the EW at 6 or not...lately I've let him get up after he's done eating because it's already 6:30 by that point, but if he wakes at 4AM in the middle of the night, he usually sleeps to at least 7.

E  6:15
A  6:30-7:35
S  7:45-8:45
E  9:15
A  9:30-10:35
S  10:45-11:45
E  12:15
A  12:30-1:35
S  1:45-2:45
E  3:15
A  3:30-4:45
S  5:00-5:45
E  6:00
A  6:15-7:00
E  7:00
S  7:15
DF  10:00-11:00
Up between 4-6:30AM for night feeding

Back down if the night feeding is early, and up afterwards if it's 6 or later.

He was going to bed at 7:30, but now I try not to let him stay up any later than 7:15 because he's been getting up at 6.

Hope this helps!

Hi there.  Seeing family this weekend as well, so sorry if this is a bit short. :)

I think his A times are generally a bit long.  Most are around 2h, which is normal for a 4m old.  This is especially long for him after only an hour nap.  I would try pulling back those As by 5-10 min and see if you can get longer naps.  I think his EW is OT.

What do you think? :D

Happy holidays. ;)
