Help for my 7 month old
« on: December 21, 2010, 22:00:03 pm »
DS is just coming up 7 months and I know we are on the cusp of the 3-2 transition but what with one thing and another, I've not managed to concentrate on moving over! We are in the process of moving house (on Thursday!) and DS is still under the care of a paed and dietician for reflux and mspi.

Anyway, he really struggles with milk volume at feeds and by no means is this down to too much solids as he has always struggled (I think reflux / mspi related) and his solid intake is still very low. Anyway, we are still cramming in 3 naps and still getting 35min naps a lot so I know we need to up his A time to 3hrs and try and extend naps to ensure we get 2 fairly good ones.

But my question is, I can't remember when to fit feeds in when he starts napping mid morning and mid afternoon when his feeds typically are. So his E times are 7, 11, 3 and 7 for milk and about 8, 12 and 5 for solids. But if he starts napping 10-11:30 (hopefully, I dream of naps this long!) when do I do milk? 11:30 and then move solids to 1pm? And then for the afternoon sleep 2:30-4...what do I do about the 3pm feed?

So silly as I did all this with DD but I really cannot remember what I did in the end!!!!

Any help out there?

Hi Leanne!
usually the dropping of the catnap coincides with an establishment of solids. I know your situation is unique bc he has reflux and isn't able to take large feeds.
Some los at this age end up dropping a feed, but I kept four feeds until after she was 1 year.

 So I think I did..I don't remember too well..

7am wake
7:30 bf
10am sleep (she never did 1 hour and 30 minutes...::) )
11:10 wake up
11:20 or so feed
etc.

I think your choices are either to feed before (1 breast) and then the other afterwards OR feed before completely and then give solids when he wakes up or just let the feed go until he wakes up. As her A times approached 3.5 hours i just fed her before she napped.

Does that help...

I'm always scared to move anything that is related to her feed, but they're so adaptable :) I think it's just trial and error really. I think he'd be able to feed afterwards? Maybe give him a snack before nap?
