Hi,

I am new to Babywhisperer. I did read Tracy's book and it did give me some great advice on different matters, but I'm hoping to find some help now with our latest issue.

My 10 month baby girl started sleeping through the night (7.30/8pm - 5/6am) when she was about 4 1/2 or 5 months old. Also napping was/is no big issue. Usually twice a day, sometime between 10.30am - 12.30pm for about 1 - 1 1/2 hours and the again at around 3.30/6pm for another 30-60min (but that second nap not every day). She also eats well. I still give her 5 bottles (each 6 oz) per day and of course cereal, veggies and meat.

We currently live in the US, but I am from germany, so we were visiting my parents and since we came back about 3 weeks ago, she has not slept one full night through!!! In the beginning we took her in our bed when she started crying, cause I thought it might be jetlag and also I saw another tooth coming out, so she was probably waking up because of that. But now she shouldn't have any more jetlag and the teething pain is gone, because when we take her now to our bed, she goes right back to sleep. When she's in pain she doesn't.

What's happening now is that she goes to sleep at 7.30/8pm and wakes up at around 12am, I usually just give her a pacifier and she goes back to sleep. But now she won't, she will continue crying, sometimes for hours!!! Last night she did actually go back to sleep with the paci back in her mouth, but then she up up again at around 2.30/3am and kept crying till around 5am. Since we only have a one bedroom apartment she sleeps with us in our bedroom. Now everybody keeps telling me that either the baby or we have to sleep in the living room and that we need to let her cry out till she goes back to sleep by herself. We're only supposed to go in every aprrox. 5 min to lay her back down and calm her (without any interaction), but this has been going on and on and we are like Zombies!! Any advice? I heard I need to get rid of the paci when putting her to sleep. PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank you!

Hi there, welcome to BW - it's great that you have read the book because it has a lot of information about how to sleep train and the most gentle methods to use for our LOs.  She could still be teething...have you tried pain meds?  They pop them like popcorn at this age, if she's not already cutting they are moving down the gums.  It's usually the most painful part too because it just aches.

Could you post what your past few days looked like complete with naps, feeds, NW everything.  Her day you kind of post up there looks quite OT for a 10 mth old.  She's not getting enough sleep and has a long day.

The paci could be a prop but lets look at the whole picture first.

Hang in there!  We're here to help you!
The tweaking never stops!
