Hello! I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.. I have two questions, I decided to put them in on thread instead of posting two..

ONE.. I was on antibiotics for a infection in my wisdom tooth. I stopped taking them about a week and a half ago. I took acidophilus the whole time I was on them and still am, I also gave them to the baby and he is still taking them. I noticed a few days ago that he has a tiny bit of a white coating on his tongue. I have looked up pictures of thrush online and it looks nothing like any of those. It kind of looks like a normal white coating I've seen on my tongue in the past due to thirst, but his will not wipe off and has been there for a few days. He is nursing a lot less than normal, but is still nursing at least every three hours sometimes every 2 hours. I do not have any pain in my nipples either. He will be 6 weeks old Thursday, and I know that babies start to nurse less when they get older I don't know when that normally begins. He doesn’t seem to be in any pain but I don't want it to get worse and both of us have it for a while. I've tried to get a picture of it to post but I can't get him to open his mouth for me to take a picture of it. Will continuing the acidophilus make it go away if what he has is actually thrush or should I take him the the PD?

My OTHER question is.. Is it possible to have an overactive letdown in only one breast?!? He has had trouble nursing on only one of my breasts since he was born. I've recently been reading about overactive let down and it seems like that’s what’s going on.. I don't and have never felt my let down so I don't know if he starts squirming and pulls away when I let down. He seems to bite down on my nipple and pulls off or i pull him off, but all the websites I look at says milk will spray when I pull him off or he pulls off himself but it doesn’t. I do express my milk it into a towel or pump if I’m near my pump at the time. When i pump he seems to do better but when I express my milk it doesn’t help. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?

Thanks in advance: D

 Hi honey,

I dont know anything about acidophilos I'm afraid but I cant tell you that my DD always had a white tongue just from drinking milk all the time! MW's and HV's said it was completely normal.  :)

I have an OAL and it is alot worse on one side than the other, milk doesn't always come flying out with me either.  ;) I wouldn't recommend using a pump to help with the OAL as it can play havoc with supply ( OAL and oversupply usually go hand in hand) but I owuld keep trying to hand express. I didn't have much luck at first either and I have found that it takes alot practice!

Other than expressing there sn't much you can do, I dont feel my let down either but sometimes I can unlatch DD just in time to 'catch' the letdown but thats mostly a fluke! He will get used to it eventually. ((((hugs))))) I know what a PITA it can be.  :)
