SETTLING HAS BECOME A NIGHTMARE
« on: December 29, 2010, 14:40:58 pm »
My Lo is 16 weeks today.  She has silent reflux which is being medicated.  At six weeks we removed the paci as she rarely slept beyond 30m.  She is swaddled and was self-settling with the use of white noise and a little patting.  Using this method she would nap well.

The last week however it has become increasingly difficult to settle her.  She seems to cry as soon as she is placed in the cot lots of nose rubbing and squirming.  She then escalates to full on crying. Bedtime has become a nightmare last night it took 1.5hrs of crying before she fell asleep !!!!  Normally 5-10 mins.  The same seems to be happening at each sleep.  Today DH took a try and he ended up giving her the paci !!!!  She has been paci free for 10 weeks !!  She did settle very quickly however.

She sucks her hands when up constantly so she likes sucking.......but I do not want to go back down the paci route, and she has not worked out how to suck her hands at nap time even when I have tried to leave a hand free from swaddle.   Any ideas whats going on here.  She has a pead appt for reflux on Monday but I am not certain that this is the main problem.

Our EASY before this was something like this:

A: 8:00 am
S: 10:00-11:15
A: 11:15
S: 12:45-3:15
S: 5:15-6:15
S  8:30  (1 or 2 NW breastfed).

The last few days we are plagued with short naps mainly a result I feel due to being OT and worked up by the time she eventually falls asleep.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there! When was the last time her reflux meds were adjusted? Is there a chance it's bothering her? I want to make sure the reflux isn't the issue first, because sleep training isn't really feasible for a LO in pain.

Cheers for response.

Meds were last adjusted about 4 weeks ago.  We have a follow up on monday. I think her reflux is doing ok at min but will review on monday.  It just feels like this has come out of nowhere.

As EASY goes do you think it looks suitable for her age ?

Im hoping it will just pass.  In addition I feed her whenever she wakes at night.  Normally no more than x2but im not certain she is always requiring a meal.  Im wondering if this is adding to our problems.

Ta once again.
