NW due to Rolling around/Teething?
« on: December 31, 2010, 03:07:23 am »
Hi, my DS is almost 6 months old. (5 months and 3 weeks). At about 4 months or so we weaned the 2am feed and he started sleeping through the night from about 6:30pm -6:30am with a DF at 10:30pm. But he only did this for 2 weeks until he started rolling around his crib in the middle of the night.  I figured this was a developmental milestone and he wanted to practice rolling, but would go back to sleeping again soon. Here we are almost 2 months later and he hasn't slept through the night since then, except for one random time the other night. What should I be doing during the night? Usually when he wakes up I pick him up, soothe him, reposition him, or if he is really awake and can't resettle, I'll nurse a bit (but I don't want to encourage a habit of this). I think he's teething too. No teeth yet, but sucking on fingers all day long and drooling.  When he started night waking, I figured it was normal for his age and this would pass, but it's been 2 months and he's back to being a bad sleeper. What should we do?

Also, I'm wondering whether the DF is messing up his sleep. Any thoughts on weaning that? We haven't started solids yet, but we'll probably start in the next couple weeks.

TIA!

Hi there, if he's teething I would put my money on that one.  Have you tried meds?  Tracy did mention in her books that the DF can interfere with night sleep, she suggested weaning it around 7 mths but it could be worth a try for you.  Since he's heading into the 6 mth growth spurt I would not expect him to stop eating at night just yet though, if you give up the DF you may still get additional waking at night for food.
The tweaking never stops!
