Insanely Picky Eating After Illness
« on: January 02, 2011, 20:02:12 pm »
DS (19 months on Wednesday) had already been getting pickier and pickier lately. But then he got an ear infection and red throat a week ago and was eating NOTHING. Started abx 6 days ago. Ear infection is gone (re-checked today actually) but still has fair amount of congestion and post nasal drip. And is very tired and cranky. And is eating next to nothing - not even old favorites like fruit, pizza, soup or yogurt. He's down to basically only bagels (plain mini-bagels), silver dollar pancakes and try cereal. Plus drinking his milk.

Any thoughts on (1) how long this eating strike might last for, (2) when I need to start worrying about it (he has lost some weight through this) and (3) what i can do to entice some healthy eating/variety again? He'll start sobbing because he's hungry but refuse tons of healthy things he used to like (and be mean and forceful in the refusal) and then finally calm down once he eats a little something or drinks his bottle (yesterday he basically sobbed from 2:30-6pm until he had his post dinner bottle - after eating NO dinner).

It's very stressful for me and not healthy for him!

Following along as we have a similar problem over here. Pretty much only milk at the moment aside from fruit for a good couple weeks now.
