Pumping
« on: January 11, 2011, 05:08:56 am »
So I have decided to intro the DF
I pumped this morning after the morning feed (I feed both sides) and I only managed to get almost an oz. I will pump after every feed today, but just wondering if I do this every day from now should I get more from each pumping session as the days go by?

also she feeds every 4 hours - so could I pump every two without it affecting my supply?

Second pump of the day - nothing :(

The pumping will stimulate your body to make more milk so yep after a few pumping sessions, even if you get nothing you will eventually after a couple or so days.

Sometimes when I pump in the morning I take a break for about 5 mins then try again and seem to get another let down.

No problem at all, but you have to put the fresh milk in the fridge until it's the same temp and then you can add them together. HTH :)

The pump can't access all the milk that the baby can.  Since your pump output is so low, you could try pumping before a feed.  You may get lucky and pump out the "easy to access" milk but leave the "harder to access milk" (which is probably the majority of your milk) for the baby.  Baby may need to nurse a few extra minutes but is still likely to get enough milk.
