What do you do for long NWs?
« on: January 12, 2011, 17:24:21 pm »
My son is 2.5 now. He has never been a good sleeper. He is very clingy as well. We just got back from overseas with 8 hr time difference. We are getting over jet lag just now. He was sleeping with me when we were overseas. I want to change it but it is not easy because first he doesn't take naps anymore. He even lays down for 2 hours at daycare and not go to sleep. He sleeps 11-12 hours at night which is clearly not enough for him. He is a spirited-textbook toddler. He is very active and he talks too much. I now he is way past overtired now. I just don't know how to turn this around.

He wakes up between 5-6 am.
He would only nap if he has been exhausted for days. Even than he falls asleep late at daycare and they wake him up even if he fell asleep 10 mins before end of nap time. I am sooo mad at them for this.
He is asleep around 6 pm.

I am trying to push his bedtime to 6:30-7 pm and wake up time to 6-6:30 am like before. He had NWs before our long trip as well.

He is clingy and wants me to hug him when we are co-sleeping. I started just making him hold my hand last night. Then I will move out of the room gradually.

My problem is often enough he wakes up at night and cannot go back to sleep for 203 hours even if I am there. I usually stay with him.otherwise it would be a screaming hell. I think this is my mistake. Mayben even then I should not stay with him. Because he immediately wants to sleep with me after this.

What do you think I should do when he wakes up at night and can not go to sleep for long periods?

Thanks

Hi there, it isn't helping if daycare won't let him sleep.  Is there any movement on this?  He sounds chronically OT.
The tweaking never stops!

Hi again,

We are still where we were. He took a 1.5 hr nap at daycare yesterday but then he didn't go to sleep until 7:30 pm and he had many NWs. Not long ones though. Today he didn't take a nap. I put him to sleep early today at 6:15 pm. We are holding hands now. Next, I will move close to the door inside his room.

I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions about what I should do when I don't co-sleep with him and he has long NWS? I really need help for this one.

Thanks
