"Normal" amounts of sleep
« on: January 13, 2011, 09:06:29 am »
So I know the root of our problem right now is eye teeth, but I'm curious at 18 mo what typical amounts of sleep are. Here is our normal day. I'll include our current wake up problem time even though it varies within an hour or two, but is becoming quite consistently ever night :(

7:30 am wake up
1:30 nap (anywhere from 1-2 hrs)
7:30/8 pm bedtime
1/3 am wake up (will not go back to bed in crib right now a common teeth sign with her)

I'm interested in seeing other's routines too.  On a good day, here is my DD's schedule:
Wake 7:30
Nap 1:00 - 3:00
Asleep 8:00ish

Last 2 days we've had EW at 5:30 and 6:00.  Not sure why.  His eye teeth are pretty much through already.

At that age we did something like:

8am wake up
12.30/1pm Nap 2.5 hours
8.30pm Bed

Have you tried medicating at 11pm like a DF to see if that stops the NW?  If its teething related it is most likely pain waking her.  I find my DD1 is sleepier when teething so it could be an OT wakening too?

I'm afraid to go in and do that. She did not do well with the df and would be up for hours. Our 1st, we could do the df of more medications and she would continue sleeping. I'm sure if we cod figure out some way to give her medication it would help. Just how to do it is the question. As soon as I go in there she goes into pick me up panic mode. Then once I pick her up we are up all night :(

Are you medicating when she wakes up?  Does that help her settle?  Have you tried making bedtime a little earlier to see if that helps?

We have been medicating at bedtime. She was going to bed earlier at first with big sister. She goes to bed at 6:30/7. Then when lo was not napping for awhile. When she started napping she went through a wake up so we pushed bedtime back and she went back to sleeping through the night. Now we're back to wake ups :(

Have you tried her napping earlier, maybe about 1pm to see if you can get a good, long nap out of her.  Maybe with the NWs she would be ready for her nap sooner?

I wish we could nap earlier. My older one attends preschool and her pick up is 1 pm. We have to leave at 12:30 and we aren't back until 1:30. So 1:30 is the earliest we get home. Sometimes not until 2 :(

Thats tough as I ws thinking an early nap would help her catch up.  How about an earlier bedtime?

Even if she napped from 2-4? What time would you suggest?
