well I have been trying for two naps very hard, but ever since Kai took a one nap day last week  everyday has been one nap since!   He is pretty OT, and fights the cat nap alot, and is only ready for it at 5pm

jakob sounds exactly the same, and if he does seem to need the catnap it clashes with the school run so i have UT or OT an hour or so later

i shouldv just waited a bit to post above because that night we had a 5am wake up and last night a 5.30am wake up as thurs he only had an hour and yday a 40 min at 10am and then fell asleep for 20 at 2.30 and i had to wake him for school run.

if he wakes before 6 im trying to just keep him quiet on my lap until he fidgets and i put him down, 50/50 whether it work, but he generally only sleeps 20 mins after if he does go back off.  i try not to leave the room before 6am and only do if hes woken up big bro and they are all making a noise, turning on lights.

so today he has done a 5.30 wake (with a 15 min return to bed till 6am) 4.5/5hrs A time as was UT before that (or DS1 and OH were too  noisy and he knew he was missing something). im tempted to leave him sleep while DS2 is at swimming - hope for 2 hrs (which im v doubtful about) and put him to bed at 6pm or a nap before 5 if hes looking tired.

any advise on this?

im sure if it wasnt for the school run and my parent having him weds and thurs we would have had this sussed by now :(

With you jakobsmommy. Back to 5.30 EWs, illnesses and a few things throwing the routine a bit. Just having to fiddle about to fit in these two naps, if I can get a long PM one in I feel better, as it seems to work for us.

Today we had naps at 11-11.50 (she woke) and 5-5.30, because of DS's birthday party. I hated the thought of such a late nap but she was so tired and now at 8pm she has been in bed for 30 mins, still moaning with me doing WIWO/PD. Wonder what time she'll konk out?

I hate deviating from the routine! I feel so guilty! Why is it the mums I know who don't BW say "oh (s)he mostly only has 30mins nap all day" yet they STTN 7-7 all the time!

we haven't had any sttn for a week now.

we were aiming mostly long am n short pm but for 3 days in a row, dd gave me 40min am nap after 3.5 A and we have to go out in the afternoon so catnap in the car. The nites were not too bad, even when dd woke, she lied herself back down with just a little prompt from me n not much crying. If we weren't sleeping in the same room, I would have thought she sttn, but I can hear her roll in her bed n I know she was awake, sometimes for 1.5hrs.

Short am n long pm worked for dd ( it did 2 weeks ago, dun know about now) but I can't fix our schedule around it. And it is the Chinese New year so there is no way we can stay in all day to do her naps. Also she is so fragile between her 2 naps, it seems the only time that she is cheerful is the few hrs b4 BT which makes me feel like I am torturing her.

Today I extend her 1st A to 4 hrs and she slept 1.5 ( I woke her), we went out and she napped in the baby carrier for 20mins from 4-4:20. so the day went like this: 4/1.5/4.25/20min/4. Again, NW at 3 ish. could that be the last A is too long? she seemed fine b4 BT though, no meltdown or crankiness. Or is it because the nap was too late? I don't think she is willing to go down any sooner without AP.

These 2 naps are driving me crazy, I think I'll push out her 1st A and try one nap day after the Chinese new year.

I agree with daylene, my lo also sleeps better when she tries  catch up on OT, dd gave me a 13 hrs nite (usually it is 9.5-10.5) after a few days of rubbish naps but then the following day she only had one 45 min nap all day.....

Yay!  Lillybug!  Glad you got it set.  Great news!

Jakobsmommy-Hugs for you.  It's got to be hard.  Have you tired starting your day with him at 5amish in order to get an earlier nap schedule to fit into school runs?  Maybe then you can start to push them together.

Spodnic-I hate those people who get 12-13 STTN too!  But they only get a few 30 min breaks during the day!!  I had that once for a while with my LO.  It's no fun!! If that makes you feel better!

ccaawc-sounds like a good plan extending the am A time.  Good luck after new years.

My Ew's are getting better with the later nap.  His A time before BT is about 3.  This way I can get him closer to 11 for am nap.  We are on our way!!

My new problem is my DD.  She is getting up at 5am!!  Time to shorten her nap even more!!

Ahh!  It never ends!!

Well we have reason for all these long A times, one naps days  and dreadful 1 hour naps for the WHOLE day.  Ds2 has woken with a corner of a tooth through today  :o

I hope for his sake he goes back to 2 naps afterall this is over, otherwise I will welcomd one nap. It sure has been easier getting out and about with my two boys on one nap  :P

thanks lulu nut, tried this. he is fighting for 5 hrs A time in the AM so if i cut off his nap hes OT and if i leave him sleep he wants a nap around 4.30/5.  i think he is really ready for 1 nap most days and needs a 2 nap day every 3rd or 4th.anyone else do this or is this just a sign the routines not working????

yday he did a 2.5 hr (omg never before!!!) 11-2.30 , 7pm bed and woke at 5.15 (but the wind is horrendous here ATM), stayed in cot till 5.45 napping then up.  tried to get him down at 10.30 but was UT and messed about a bit before he dropped off (Seems to be trying to do without his thumb??????? just his 'lovey')  and hes heading for 2.5 hr again even with the wind howling, the phone ringing x2 and the postman!)

moms got him tues/wed/thurs so any progress will be all out the window by friday :(

Yes, Eloise I also wish I could get one nap going.  I don't go anywhere between 9am-3pm!!!

Jakobsmommy- my LO also did 2.5 on am nap.  I just let him do it.  It started at 10 however so I had to give him a 30 min CT at 4 to get him to 7pm BT.  He was up at 5:15am today and did 1.15 at 10am today.  So another CT later then!!  I hear ya on the Mom days.  My Mom has him 3x week too.  This messes things up b/c he is in another bed and different noises.  It's not fun trying to get them back on track to only have them do it again!!

In this transition is it common to have some 1 nap days and some 2 nap days.  Maybe I should try that.  What is a good routine?

Just a quick one, how do those with an older child cope once youngest is on 1 nap? My ds is 3 and finishes pre school at 12.15 and I really don't want for him to have to be sat in all afternoon, he has swimming classes etc, but on same note want to give my dd what she needs, how do others make this work?? Any tips or help appreciated. Dd is only 9 months so will be good few months yet but at mo we are having a long am nap and short afternoon nap which works well xx

Since the first bit of the tooth cut two days ago he's waking once and I am feeding  ::) and going straight back to sleep.  Trying not to give a reason for him to have a long NW!

Not out of the thick, there is still more of the tooth to come and also the next one is looking like it wants to cut through too.  Sigh.  Pretty tired around here.

I can't believe how well he is coping with the long A times though, so much more resiliant than my Ds1 ever was!

We've just got tooth number 8 coming through.  Been playing the one nap days for a few days now.  He's sleeping about 13 hours at night (630pm-730am) and nap is 1230-230pm or thereabouts and it's been going well fingers crossed.  It's so more me pushing him onto one nap though as it's what I want although I am getting refusals when I try for two so can't be bothered right now so will see how he gets on for a while!
