Claire - might be BT was a wee bit late & it was an OT EW  ???

Lilybug - what a nightmare! Hope your day's got better...

lily_kitt - may be too late but I probably would have tried for an earlier BT.

We are going for 2 naps days now but are starting to get EWs. Is this commen for 2 nap days?

We got a lot of this on 2 naps.  I found that if her second nap was within 4 hours of bedtime, then it shaved about an hour off her night time sleep, regardless of how tired she was.  We were also really struggling to fit 2 naps in and if she didn't go down for her second one easily cos she wasn't tired enough, then we'd end up with 2 short naps, a 13 - 14 hour day and an OT baby at night!  The next day was ALWAYS a one nap day to tire her out again cos she got so UT she wouldn't nap properly.

Ccaawc - if the 20 minute nap approach doesn't work for you (and I think it's definitely worth a go - it kept us on 2 naps for another month or two I think), then it might be worth trying a one nap day every now and again.  Does your LO get OT easily?  You might find one or two 1 nap days tire her out enough to get a decent night, and then you might manage a 1 nap day again after that, or less A time in which case you can do 2 naps.  We had a weekly cycle which generally went, starting Monday, 1 nap, 1 nap, 1 nap (get a bit OT here or the next day), 1/2 naps, 2 naps, 2 naps, 2 naps (get UT and end up with 2 rubbish short naps), and then back to Monday and one nap again!

Alternatively, have you tried putting her back to sleep within an hour or two of WU?  We got away with that for a few weeks.  We'd get Lily up, give her some milk and then try putting her back down (after about an hours A time).  If that didn't work, we'd change her nappy, get her dressed, (sometimes also do breakfast) and then try again.  It worked for a while, and when she stopped going down within 4.75 hours of WU she moved to one nap.  It was a bit wierd and we never would have done it otherwise, but it did work sometimes following a short night. It also meant she could then have 2 decent A times and a big nap in the middle instead of little bits here and there.

Another Q about EWs.. would you give them longer naps that day to make up for the lost NT sleep??

Hi ladies,

Been reading through this thread and seeing a lot of similar stories as to what I'm going through!  HOWEVER, I think I've got the oldest in this crew...19 mths!!!  I thought we would have been transitioned to 1 nap by now, but for the past 4 mths we've had the exact same schedule (short 15 min catnap in the morning after 3hr A time, then long 2 hr nap in pm).  HOWEVER, the past 4 days have been horrible.  Won't go down for any nap :(  Today we tried pushing his morning A time to 4.5hrs (he does 4.5hrs fine in the afternoon) and he only had a 1hr20 min nap all day and was GRUMPY GRUMPY the rest of the day, finally asleep for the night at 6:15.

It was an exhausting day....

Claire - did Olly still have NW's when he EW? I think you are doing long AM/short PM nap? If the EW's continue then you could maybe consider flipping it to short AM/long PM which can help with EW's.

Lori - I know a lot of LO's who haven't gone to 1 nap 'til around 18mths or so! In theory your LO should find the transition easier as he's that bit older & should be able to handle longer A times a bit better.

Hope you've all had better days/night?

I guess it depends partly on how long he sleeps but I would have thought that as he went went down at 10.30am then yes he will still more than likely need a CN!

We're back to two naps every day and going to be keeping it that way for a while!  He's still a bit OT so going to be doing some APOP when needed if he refuses a second nap but need to get him back on track.  Just going to have to be a bit more flexible with all the running around  ::)

Hiya

Well Ty woke after an hour this morning, so woke at 11.30-11.45.  I dont want him to sleep past 4 in case it interferes with his BT.  Not sure whether to just take him out for a dribe and see if he drops off.  He's currently wandering around with his sleeping bag over his head.  ;D

Hi, LO didn't go to sleep till 8:45pm last night   ???, no crying just playing playing playing. She got up at 7:15 and is still happy. Going to try to put her down at the 4.5 hr mark. I have to remember that she CANNOT nap past 4:00pm as she won't go to bed till almost 9pm.(how i forgot this is beyond me) SHe is also bright eyes and cheerful so I'm capping am nap and pm nap will only be till 4:00 pm, wish me luck!!
