Hi all, nice to see so much support! Thanks!

On Fridays DS has a swimming lesson which means DD's first A time can be up to 5 hrs which she's coped with ok, I APOP her naps so I am in control (yeah right!). Now if I had a 7am wake up I could push it easy. Problem has been her EWs have meant even with a 5hr A time, she could still be going down at 10am, which even with a 3hr nap, is not enough to get her through the day.

So, with regard a late CN, if her bedtime is 7 for 7.30 what's the latest I could do it? 20-30 mins would be okay, but when's the cutoff? I thought waking at 4.30 was ok, but have met some resistance at bedtime because of UT I think, so have been thinking of 4pm, but sometimes I only get her off at 3.50 so then have to move her bed time slightly.

I'm sure I speak for us all when I say aaaarrrgh!

I'd say 4pm cut off for a 7pm bedtime and 430pm for a 730pm bedtime.

lt might seem late but DD naps 4.30-5 for 7.30 bt. Before l startd setting the alarm for 7.30 wu the cn was later. It seems much later than everyone else but l cant fit 2 naps in otherwise. I read someone here say that LOs shouldnt nap past 3 but that's impossible here. It would be great if Lola would have 1 long nap til 3 but we're a way off.

Does anyone know if it's ever typical to have 1 nap with the 1st A the shorter one, with a long A to bt? DD prefers a shorter 1st A and l cant imagine 6/2.5/3.5 which is the kind of thing some of my friends slightly older toddlers are doing.

Sophie - that is exactly the routine we have been doing (but with WU at 7am - we must have an extra 30 mins A time somewhere!)

Longer first A time is normal as it follows the longer sleep but I know my SIL's DS preferred a longer 2nd A time.

BB, do you mean you have a late cn too? At the moment we're managing 12 hour days but that's because her 1st A has really reduced. Think it's been a cold or teething so it will be on the rise again soon. I'll be setting the alarm for 7 then too to stop bt getting late like before. FX for good night sleep for all.

well, I'm getting another 2 nap day...although the CN is right now from 4:30-5.  We'll see if we end up with a super late BT.  It was either this or like a 5pm BT, which will have us up at 4am.  With the cold he has, I'm guessing he'll still go to bed at 7-7:30.  Hope everyone is having a nice sleep filled evening!

Lol!  Yeah I'd rather go for the later bedtime and later wake up as well!

Lewis went to bed at 6pm last night after a two short nap day yesterday and sttn until 645am.  I heard him niggling and thought it was still the early hours.  Couldn't believe how late it was when I looked at the clock!  The mornings really need to start getting lighter as it's still far too dark at that time.  Bring on the summer!

Hi

Well after the horrific night the night before last, we had one NW last night.  So this morning he was up at 6.15am, I know he's going to want another nap about 10.  Should I make this a catnap and long pm or the other way around ?  Yesterday as he was so ill, he had a 30 mins CN in the morning and 1.5 in the afternoon purely because he would only settle on my hubs in the morning.

Help....

Lily_kitt, l dont know what you've done generally in the past but ld personally go for a long am, especially when there's bn some illness or ot. I just find short am doesnt go any way to getting DD better/caught up on sleep. In fact, when lve tried a short am, lve just had a grump on my hands all afternoon but that's just us. It does work for others. With a long am you also know you've def some decent sleep in. Hope you find something that works.

AmyEthan - thanks :-)
I was thinking oh no, later bedtime means less time for me, but if she sleeps longer, I get more sleep, meaning I don't need to go to bed a 9.30, wow I can stay up til 10.30 without being tired lol.

hiya

thanks for the response, he's always had long am, and we cut short his pm at 4pm.  just i thought the long pm was supposed to be the way to go.  but when he's up later he only has 1 nap after lunch.

thanks

sarah

Sophie, I agree with you....short PM has never really worked with either of my LO's (although I know some Mum's swear by short AM/long PM especially to curb EW's).

I would go for a long AM too as with illness they need more sleep to recuperate, you might be able to put him down a bit earlier too as A times usually shorten with illness.
