Overtired or under tired?
« on: January 17, 2011, 08:45:20 am »
I have a 4 month old who keeps waking up after night feeds and talking for about an hour before settling herself to sleep. She can self soothe, so she doesn't cry. But I am worried bcos she does tat everyday, I don't know whether she is not tired enuf or being overtired. Her night feeds are typically between 10-11pm and 4-5am.

During the day, she naps 3 times and varies from 30min to 2 hrs. But she will normally have one 2 hr nap during the day and the rest may b shorter. Mostly they are between 45min to 1hr plus. Do u think she is under tired or overtired? But she yawns and rubs her eyes all the time when awake? So I tot she is tired and put her to bed but then she starts crackling and babbling until she finally falls asleep.

HI there, could it be digestive issues?  Is she gassy?  How is her eating during the day?  Could you post her routine for us.  She could also be OT because of her short naps.

Hi, she was colicky when younger. I do hear her passing gas all the time and she gets quite aroused during lighter sleep and constantly moving her arms although she doesn't fully wake up, is this normal? I religiously burp her after every feed though. Yesterday night was an improvement, I let her suck my little finger immediately after finishing her bottle n she went back to sleep straight away. She slept from 0830pm to 0630am. I don't know how I could extend her night sleep. I have tried putting her down at various times between 6pm to 8pm but she always wakes up before 7am.

She doesn't have a strict routine bcos her wake up time varies. However, typically we only attend to her at 7am no matter what time she wakes up. So it is a little like below:

E - 0700
A - 0700-0800
S- 0800 - 0900 (varies between 30min to 1 hr)
A- 0900- 11ish
E- 1100
S- 1200 ( varies between 30min to 2 hrs. She typically has her 2 hr nap mid- afternoon or late afternoon, I have no predictable pattern)
E- 3pm
A- 2ish to 4?
S- again nap times vary.
A- 5pm till 6ish
E- 630
S- 630-730 bedtime
E-
