waking every 3-4 hours at night
« on: January 23, 2011, 01:39:20 am »
Hi,

My 5 month old has been waking up every 3-4 hours at night for the past 6 weeks.  We are on a decent schedule and he always falls asleep on his own, so I am wondering if the waking could mean that he is hungry and we need to start some solids in the evening before bed..??

He is 17lbs and nurses every 3.5-4 hours.  When he wakes at night I try to get him to go back to sleep without nursing him.. i try paci and leaving him for a bit to see if he will settle.. might work once in awhile.. but I usually end up nursing him twice during the night hours :(  I am so ready for this to stop or at least get down to one feeding a night.  Any thoughts on starting cereal or any other ideas for me??  I was not sure whether to post this in eating forum or night waking, feel free to move if it is better somewhere else.  Thank you!!

liz

I'm still nursing my 6.5 month old at least twice a night and she is eating 3 small solid meals a day....course it depends on the baby I'm sure!  I wish I had some advice, just know that here's one more momma going through the same thing!

We also have about 2 night feeds (amid our gazzilion nw's) at just over 6 mo. I think it's pretty common at this age.

I also have a 6.5 month old DS and he's having 2 feeds at night and he's having 3 solids during the day. I have a post on night wakings called 6.5 months old habitual waking.
So you're not alone.

yeah,  i am thinking i will just ride it out a little longer and start solids at 6 months..  sounds like it is just babies being babies and being unpredictable sometimes :)  good to hear i am not alone... although for your all's sake  i wish i was :)
