We find the same.  O gets so tired but his nights are generally better with no nap.

Hang in there Liz :-*

We are actually in a decent place.  M is sleeping the best he has in months.  He is napping for 30 minutes every day and sleeping like a rock at night.  I really think it has nothing to do with routine tweaking and more that he is outside running around from sun up until sun down in this heat.

I know now that I have opened my mouth, that I have jinxed it. :P

My dd1 totally refuses napping now for a week.  She's EW and having brief NWs so I know she's OT but there's nothing I could do,  especially with a newborn around.  Hoping we start getting longer nights soon.

My son is refusing to nap now too if I ask him, but he almost fell asleep today and my parents stopped in and well, that was that. No nap.

He had a 25 minute cat nap in the car on Friday and went to bed later that evening. 8pm or so. Slept around 11 hours. Last night he slept 12.5 hours for the first time in his life! Right now he is in the process of going to sleep. So wake time today was 7:20am.

I can't believe how much easier it is without worrying about a nap. Of course things will be different next week as my vacation is over and we will be commuting home at 3:15pm every day! So, I am sure we will have some late cat naps to deal with. :)

So, all in all I am not worrying about day sleep anymore. I am doing quiet time after lunch. He has to lay down and read books with me for at least a 1/2 hour.

We had a 25 min car nap yesterday because we had a busy day out.  He handled it very well (including attending a 3-yr old birthday party) and then went on to do 12.5 hrs overnight.  I wish his behaviour allowed for regular no nap days because it was so much easier than worrying about a nap.  Because he had 25 min car nap we went with a 7 bedtime, he was totally zonked.  But on a no nap day we do a 6:30 bedtime.  No earlier because he's a chronic EW and I'm just not confident about his tacking ability.  So I figure worst case is that he does 11 hrs overnight and we get a 5:30 wake up.

So pretty much 12 hrs from waking.

Kristina, that's great how he's adjusting.  Sounds like you are making a smooth transition!  These stories give us all hope :-)

It's been over a month since she dropped her nap & it's only now nights are starting to get longer, 13 hrs 'tho....never thought we'd get to that point!!

Sian I'll see you and raise you....

O was asleep by 6.05pm last night - heard him just before 6am this morning (thought that's ok nearly 12hrs won't complain) next thing we know it's 7.45am  :o  :o

The key for us seems to be short days which we can't do very well during the week.  ::)  If we could do 11-11.5hr days that'd be perfect but they always tend to be 12-12.5hrs

Wow Laura!.....maybe there's something in the air, 'tho I'm not naive enough to know that it's unlikely to last here!

Mimi, her days had been around 12hrs but have been shorter, around 11hrs the last few days (due to longer nights), so Laura could be onto something....

Have you ladies brought bedtime forwards then?? I'm sure J would like to go to bed earlier but it's tough with 2, or work etc. I've been sticking to 7pm as best I can but hmmmm he's so tired!!

We're not quite *there* yet but I have been having great success with earlier bedtime on short or no nap days.  Whereas it has not worked well in the past and I defiantly never did it because of EW, I do it now and am pleasantly surprised.  He's just so much happier and goes to bed more easily and sleeps like a log.  I hate second winds!

Liz, we've still being doing 6.45pm/7pm BT's, but with the later WU's that's still meant an 11hr day for us rather than 12hrs...

We do 6.30pm bedtime during the week (we're up at 6am ish) on weekends we'll do between 6 and 6.15pm and usually he'll sleep in to 6.30/7am (his light comes on at 7am) and so therefore his day is shorter and the following night he sleeps longer.  I guess we could really put it to the test this weekend being BH and it worked a treat.

However like you Sian I really am not naive enough to think it'll last!  However I'll take whatever I can get! ;)

Liz perhaps try and 11/11.5hr day (when you have some help) and see what happens.
