New ideas for at home activities??
« on: January 23, 2011, 20:35:03 pm »
Hi....

I was wondering whether any fellow Mums out there (especially those with 2 LO's) have any ideas to inspire me on activities to do with my 2 LO's (2.5 yr old & 1 yr old). Due to the time of year & rubbish weather we are indoors a lot more than I'd like & I'm finding it increasingly challenging to come up with new things to keep them occupied (of course due to their ages they are not necessarily able to do the same things).

So I'm looking for suggestions of things to do at home....we've exhausted drawing/reading books/cooking/playing with Christmas toys etc, etc & I've run out of ideas...Help!!!  ;)

DS1 is almost 2.5 and for Christmas I made him a 'fun station'.  I got a big plastic container lid to hold everything, and put in:
*paints & smocks
*playdough with all sorts of cookie cutters, etc
*different containers full of dried pasta, lentils, beans, and rice (which are all mixed up now!  ::))
*an assortment of measuring cups, spoons, plastic cups, bowls, and ice cube trays to mix, scoop and sort

The only things I bought were the paint and the containers for the beans, etc., plus the beans and lentils.  Everything else I found at home.  I made the playdough.
We haven't even gotten to the paints yet, but DS loves scooping all the stuff around!!

I was planning on doing some water play with him too using the same container lid, but we haven't gotten to it yet.

I'm sure a lot of this won't be appropriate for your younger LO, but maybe he'd enjoy painting!

Another thing I let DS1 do and actually a younger toddler could probably do too is scoop flour from one container to another.  It's messy, but easy to clean up, and he loves it!

Martina...we want to come play at your house!

Sian...how you seen the magic maize kits?   I got DD1 a set for Christmas and she LOVES it and is able to be fairly independent with it too!  We got ours in ELC.  Painting is a big hit here.  I got a big roll of paper from ikas and block paints and leave it set up and M paints several times a day.  Bathing dollies here is a hit too as it just generally playing with a bucket of water and sponges with some toys to wash.  Usually ends up drenched but small price to pay for a half hours entertainment!
