1 YO DS night screams?>
« on: January 24, 2011, 02:54:36 am »
hi all

I just wanted to ask everyone about my DS's poor night sleep

It been 2 weeks now of him waking in the night screaming. Not every night, but most of them. Usually around midnight and then early morning say 4-5am

Any ideas? Anyone else have this happening?

THANKS! arbour

ps - He already has 6 teeth 4 upper 2 lower.. Also I dont always go it.. often I wait and sometimes he settles on his own.

Hugs, we've been having the same for a while now and I usually think it's teething related but it can be OT.

Do you want to post your EASY?

I'm going to pop this over to Toddler Sleep so you can get some more eyes on it over there. ;)

Looks like the EASY is ok, you seem to be starting the 2-1.  He may be a bit OT with that A time at the end of the day after an hour nap, but some would do fine with it so it's hard to say.  You could try putting him down 15 or 20 min earlier for a few nights to see if that helps.

Are you sure he's not teething?  That would be my front runner thought. ;)

It might be teething - I just thought that if it was it wouldnt have lasted so long
Ill try tylenol tonight at 10 when I do check on him before bed.. and we will see if it makes a difference

thanks.. ill update tomorrow.

I would've thought that too, but then I've been doing the teething thing for basically the past 4 months! :P  It can take a looong time for those suckers to cut.  Poor kiddos.  Try Motrin instead of Tylenol if you have any, it's better for teething since it's an anti-inflammatory. ;)

KMK -sorry.. a day late in replying.. we are actually on vacation right now.

I tried the tylenol - that equaled no late night wake, but a really rough early morning (started at 4 am.. and repeated settling then just getting up by 6am.)

LAst night he slept through the whole night - but that could have been due to missing naps through the day because he didnt get much sleep.

Today he had a good morning nap - but no much (and a late) afternoon nap.
Tomorrow I am going to try and stick with his routine.. although I wonder if its changing! he always keeps me guessing.

Cheers
PS - I dont know if we have anything other than tylenol and advil up here.. Ill look for motrin

update - we are home form vacation.. ive been trying to figure out DS's routine now that we are home again. A time is about 3.5 hours - but in the AM (his first A time) it seems that he always wants to go down sooner

This morning there was a 5:40am wake up.. I went in after a min of waiting to see if he would settle.. but no - he was standing crying when i did go in. That was the only wake tho.

The previous night it was 3:30 am . but after trying to settle I checked his diaper and he was super wet - he settled after we changed.

I think I might have to figure out if he needs a routine change

here was our easy yesterday - ive tried extending his morning A time a bit - We have to start getting up earlier because Ill be returning to work in 2 weeks and need to be out of the house by 7. He was up at 11pm and then mid way through the night after that.

6:30 wake
0700: Breakfast and bottle
10:00 snack
10:30 Nap for ~ 1.5 hrs
12:00 wake and lunch
2:30 snack
3:00 nap ~ 1 hour
5:00 dinner
6:15ish Bath
7:00 bottle, brush teeth, story, bed.

I have tried not going in when he starts crying. He settle for a few min then started crying more.. Just not sure how I should handle this when it happens.. and also try and figure out WHY its happening in the first place

Still having crying out at night.

He has settled a few times now (by himself) if I wait.. But how long is too long?

Is anyone else out there going through this? if so - what did you do?

countdown to return to work is T-9

thanks~!
