Berni I am the same way with my own eating!
Pleased to hear that I'm not the only one!
I am also guilty of not buying things DH and I don't eat for the kids to at least try (like olives!).
I think most people are probably guilty of this - as both DH and I love olives the LOs have always been 'exposed' to them - they both rejected them at first - can't remember exactly at what age they were offered but both LOs signed 'grapes' when they saw them - bit of a shocker if you think you're going to taste a sweet grape and you get the salty taste of olive LOL!
DD always likes to have 'olives and pickle (gherkin) on the side' of her lunch and will often ask where they are if I don't put them on! When she takes packed lunch to school she has a 'veg box' which consists of: 2 cherry toms, couple of slices of cucumber, 2 green olives, 2 black olives, 1 pickle. Some of the other LOs have 'commented' on her veg box (and by commented I'm being polite
) and she was a bit upset - I did say that if she was bothered I would stop putting things in that were 'different from the norm' but she said she wanted to carry on taking them cos she loves them
I was very proud as I explained that they were the ones missing out!
DS still hasn't quite got to the pickle stage yet - has a bite or small piece but that's as far as it goes - we're on a mission to convert him LOL!
I hate food waste so I serve really small portions and then they get seconds if they want.
I'm the same - TBH we have very little food waste as it's something I try to be conscious of. Though you have pointed out the obvious there - I should put out smaller portions and then they can ask for more rather than overloading their plates. I miss having the dogs as they were very good at consuming any waste!
DH quite often has 'seconds' now - which basically means that he eats whatever DS has refused
DD is pretty good at eating whatever is put in front of her - in fact this past couple of weeks she is permanently hungry so I'm wondering if she is in a GS (do they get them at 7.5yo
) as I can't seem to fill her.
Anyway - I veered slightly OT there . . . could talk about food all day LOL!!
Here's what DS had today:
B: slice of toast, few handfuls of blueberries, banana, juicy water, milk
S: cup of milk on way to playgroup - said he had a biscuit at playgroup but he could have had more
L: leftover sausage pasta bake, yoghurt, water
S: milk, organix cheese crackers
D: pick & mix plate: half an avocado, salami, cheese, hummus, breadsticks, green & black olives, cherry toms & cucumber, fruit in jelly pot, yoghurt raisins, water
