To top up or not at 7am for 10.5months old?
« on: February 11, 2011, 00:24:25 am »
Hi I need some advice, if my Ds wakes up before 430am for bf, I will do a top up at 7am, I wondering if I will be making things worse? or should I go right to breakfast and just bring his next feed forward a bit? I am currently working hard to get him down to 4xbf but still around 5x and that doesn't included a diluted 3oz bottle at 12am, a NW habit that I am trying to break him out of too. I just can't imagine getting him to 3x at 11months, also in the process of weaning, ( bottle for 1230pm feed), then hopefully move that to 2pm when he is around 11months.
Suggestions?

I always offered the top up on waking - ultimately, if they're going to drop a feed you'd rather drop the early morning one and keep the wake up one, Kwim? I found that NOT doing the top up is what reinforces the night feed... Once you've dropped the midnight feed you could move to doing the same with the 430am one, and as he takes less at 430 he'll take more at 7.

Is there a reason why you want to get to 3x at 11mo? Because 4x/day is the minimum suggested by the WHO until 10mo but with no rush to drop feeds at that point.

Hi That's make sense to keep offering top-up at 7am, with a early morning NF. He just never seemed very hungry at 1230 Bf and wondering if taking out 7am feed will change that but do not want to mess with his NF by doing that. I don't see myself going to 3x Bf with NF still going on ( seemed really hungry too) I suspect my little guy only takes 4-5/oz per feed despite my efforts to increase his milk intake during the day. Only take 5oz from 1230 bottle, as I am in the middle of weaning him off of daytime feeds, I will offer a bottle for his 430 feed next week and go from there, I guess. Thanks for the reassurance Dylan's mommy
