« on: February 13, 2011, 15:44:17 pm »
Can I use it in cooking like fish pie, mash potato etc?  Any tips?

Thanks

I believe you can add it to foods before you serve them...but as far as exposing it to high temps, it will destroy the protein (I think over 110 degrees F) and vitamins in it... and the protein in it will most likely coagulate at high temps.

I don't have personal experience with neocate, but I have tried to cook with or add protein supplements to heat and it never turns out well.

Thanks Zoey

I attempted cooking a fish pie! You are right it coagulates! Cooked the fish in the microwave in it and it coagulated. Then used some more to make a white sauce. That looked ok, but the final dish tasted foul. Hmm, will see if he eats it tomorrow! Think I will stick to casseroles and stews!

I believed that you could cook it. Use it for custard, sauces etc. Did you get a recipe book with an information pack when he first started on it?
Both my kids drink/drank Neocate but neither of them will touch anything that has Neocate in it! They tolerate drinking it and do so without a fuss, but neither will drink it by choice from a sippy and neither woul eat anything 'contaminated' with the Neocate taste!

Ooo... I just found this link http://www.foodallergyliving.net/category/neocate-milk-free-recipes/

Thanks Jenny

Everything I find on google seems to use Neocate Nutra....? Is that specific for cooking?

I didn't get a info pack ... might have to ask the GP about that!

That link I put up before I just googled but on second look I'd never seen those recipes before. These are the recipes in the book I have http://www.neocate.com/aaa_neocate/1935-cooking-with-neocate.html

And then I found this too http://www.neocate.com/aaa_neocate/_download/products/CookingGuidelines.pdf which is what Zoey was saying. We have different versions of Neocate here, but probably that's just branding????
