More night feedings....corrected age 7.5 mths
« on: February 15, 2011, 04:00:29 am »
Hello,
My Lo usually gets up around 2.30AM to BF.  However, he is just getting over being very congested for a week, teething tons, and recovering from travelling.  As a result, LO has been getting up more at night crying or having a tough time breathing.  My husband and I would try and calm him him down (sometimes we could get him back to sleep but only for another hr or so), and/or would end up feeding him.  So now, he is feeling better, but is still doing the NW!! If we try to calm him he just gets more and more worked up and I am then giving in and feeding him!!  Once he is feed (and he does FULL feeds) he is right back to sleep.

He eats at 7, 11.30, 4, 7 during the day, and when things are normal usually around 2.30 at night.
This past week he has been waking at 10.30PM(can setlle him until 11.30) and 4AM.  I started noticing that this is exactly 4 1/2 hrs apart - just like his daytime feeding....is there a link?  Is there such thing as a 8.5 mth growth spurt that I am not aware of? Or have we created this when I fed him when we couldn't console him while he wasn't feeling good???  If so, how do I fix it??  I have never done PU/PD, is it appropriate here?  LO has only slept through the night once in his life, and I just assumed since he is BF that he required the one NF that I was giving at 2.30, but I know he shouldn't need 2 night feeds. Myabe at  his age he doesn't need any, and I should really work on cutting out both??????  I tried tonight to up his calories and gave him a 2 oz bottle of milk after I breastfeed him, which he drank - not sure if that should help or not?

Want my zzzzz's back!!  Any advice???

Hi, I am sorry you are struggling.  Can you post your routine in EAS format?

PU/PD is appropriate.  There are some moms on these boards that are trying to wean NFs as well.  You should check out Martina's thread.

Thanks I will check out MArtina's link....

My EAS typically:
6.30/7 wake
7 BF
8 solids
9-10.30/11: nap
11: BF
12: solids
1.30-3: nap (try for 3.30 but not always successful!)
4: BF
5.15-5.30: nap if LO woke at 3 (usually a struggle)
5.30: solids
6.30/7: BF and bed (6.30 bedtime if no catnap, otherwise 7)
NF around: 1.30-3.30

If we lengthen his A time, we end up with horrible naps.  He seems to be able to handle 2-2.5 in the morning and 2.5 hrs in the afternoon.

However as mentioned we are having much more night wakings then that!!!  How do I know if he can make it through the night without food?
