Spit Up issues, breastfeeding baby too long???
« on: February 24, 2011, 16:39:51 pm »
Hey!

I am having a tough time figuring something out and wanted some advice. I have some major spit up issues with my DD. She spits up 2-3 times after each feeding.

At first, I thought it was Acid Reflux because she seemed like she was in pain when it happened. She is now on Zantac and is still doing it.

Her schedule varies from 2.5 to 3hr EASY and she is 8 weeks on tomorrow.  She is probably around 11 or 12 pounds. I have been keeping her up for 1.5 and then put her down. When she wakes up around the 2.5 hr EASY time, I assume that she is hungry and feed her (although she has only slept for and hour at this point).

Do you think that I should pat/shh her to the 3 hour? Is this why she is spitting up so much, because I am feeding her too much? I thought that breastfed babies can't overeat?!?

What are your thoughts?

THANK YOU!!!!

Beth

hey beth
my LO has reflux and i know how tough it can be. zantac does not stop the spiting (at least i'm preaty sure it doesn't) it just stops the pain by making a lining that stops the burning. reflux has a lot of other sighns to it and i sugest you look in the http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=13.0 board.
my DD also did a 2.5h routin at that age. does she wake up hungry, crying or showing sighns she wants to eat? you can try and wait with the feed and its always good to try and extend naps see if that helps, over eating can caus spiting.

Hi there,
How old is your LO?
Agree with pp that the Zantac doesn't stop the spitting up, but does your LO still seem to be in pain? That is the biggest question especially because all babies spit up, some more some less, it's the pain and discomfort associated that can be a sign of a problem.
Is your LO putting weight on ok?

Have you seen these links yet? (thought they would be useful)

BF don't overeat, but I can tell from my experience with DS (refluxer) that he would, simply because feeding would soothe him a bit, give him some reliefe from the reflux (but then make it worse again and the vicious cycle would begin).
