Fruits to avoid for reflux
« on: March 04, 2011, 15:46:29 pm »
Should there be any fruits to avoid for my reflux girl?   So far, we have tried banana, applesauce and pear.
I was going to try peaches, mangos and apricots but read that they can be acidic. Not sure if I should wait.

Fruit with refluxers is really trial and error - what suits some doesn't suit others! The only fruits I avoided with my two were citrus fruits but to be honest most fruit is acidic so I would give things a go and if they don't agree with her stop.

My two loved peaches, nectarines, plums and mango as finger foods which they had from 6 months (easy to cut them into wedges!) but I can't get them to eat them now ::).

Same here, we tried all fruits except citrus and my DD has been fine with them all so far.

We avoided citrus and pineapple too, as is very acidic and it was the acid that aggravated things

watch out for strawberries. a few are ok but my wee man would gobble them up and then HUGE reflux episode!! it really is a bit trial and error but pears are great for those with reflux. We didnt avoid citrus but we made sure it was mixed with something that would help neutralise the acid like pear or have some potato after it. we also used to mix his berries in with porridge which helped alot Good luck

my ds2 had really bad reflux and bananas and strawberries caused him the most discomfort...we avoided citrus as well . Now ds2 is 3.5 years and can eat those things but there are still a few things that trigger a tummy upset like cucumbers, cinnamon and too much orange (fresh or juice).

Also pay attention if you use any prepared baby foods, as most fruits have added absorbic acid in them, and my DD1 had trouble with that.
