New to E.A.S.Y and totally lost.
« on: March 06, 2011, 17:36:26 pm »
My little boy is 10.5 weeks old and although he is on a 3 hour breastfeeding schedule, I cannot get him to sleep more than 2.5 hours at a shot at night. from 2:30 on he's up almost every hour. When should I be putting him to sleep for the night? Also, he gets super tired after most feedings and when i'm able to keep him up for A time, he can last max one hour. Is this enough? Anyone with guidance as to how to tweak my schedule and make it routine every day and how to get through easier nights, please help!

HUGS! Can you post his routine in EASY format (best as you can as thats the first thing the mods will ask you to do anyway) and we can have a look at his overall day. Remember A time is everything from eyes open to eyes closed so includes E, nappy change and wind down.

I have not written down his day time schedule yet so i can't write it here, but it pretty much follows a 3 hour EASY routine from around 10 AM to 8 or 9 PM.
Nights though, this is what happens:

8 or 9 - Breastfeed
9 or 10 - sleep
11 pm - dreamfeed
1/1:30 AM - Breastfeed & back to sleep
2:30 - he wakes up around every half hour to hour and just cries
4:30 - Breastfeed, back to sleep
5:30 - wakes up and won't go back down until after his 8:30 AM feed

Hi there,
Is he in any discomfort? How is he during a feed?

He's still quite young - 1 hour and 20 mins is a typical A time for his age. A couple of night feedings is also really really common..but every 2 hours MAY indicate a growth spurt or that he's getting his calories during the night.

I would try to wake him up at a consistent hour every morning, feed him..try to keep him up (this was really hard for me..I would remember I would try -everything- to keep her up during a feed). Take a break and burp...it'll get better as he gets older.

How long does he sleep for during the day? If you have the rest of the day, please do post it :) :-*

Ok, I think I realized what the problem is. When he goes to sleep from 8 on, he sleeps soundly. Once he wakes up for his 1:30/2 AM feed, and goes  back to sleep, he cannot keep himself asleep for more than 45 minutes at a shot. What can be done about this? he consistently wakes up after 45 minutes.

I don't know hunny..it could be discomfort? Is it everyday? Could you try W2S at that hour of the night?
 Is it just at nights?

Hi YH,
I have exactly the same problem as you. My nearly 9 week old boy wakes up at these same times in the night. He goes to sleep at around 8 - 8.30, DF is fine, then seems to be up every night at the same times as your little one. I'm starting to think he is waking up to comfort feed. I'm often so tired in the night, I just feed him (sometimes I try to get him back to sleep without feeding), but it's really hard. Other times, I feed him, then I wake up and we have both been asleep, with him lying on me, which I know isn't a great habit to get into. I'm just so tired though!
This weekend, my husband is going to help me be strong, not feed him straight away when he wakes up, see if we can get him to sleep first and only feed him if it is really necessary. Wish us luck!
