Need nelp on EASY routine
« on: March 08, 2011, 17:08:30 pm »
Hi!
My daughter is 4 months and 1 week old. I'm trying to implement 3.5 EASY for one week already and we are doing more or less fine.
However I have a question.
Usually she wakes up somewhere between 6 and 8 am. As she eats during the night (we cosleep) she is not hungry, but I offer her to eat and she has some. My question is should I change BT accordingly? Usually we have bath at 6.50pm, then some E and then I put her down at 7.30 pm. Sometimes she falls asleep in 10 min or less or sometimes she can be quite hysterical for 40 min like yesterday.
Our EASY yesterday:
6.15 - awake
6.30 -E
8.05 - S (she always wakes between 30-45 min and I do ssh-pat for 20-30 min)
9.55 - E
11.40-S
1.00 - awake
1.15 - E
2.50- S
3.35 - awake (was happy so I didn't try to extend her nap)
4.45 - E
5.50 S (she couldn't set down for 40 min, I was doing ssh-pat)
6.15 - awake (in pretty good mood)
6.50 - bath
7.15 - E
7.30 - at bed
8.40 - asleep (so I was settling her down for an hour!)

today she woke at 7am

Is she is getting OT? last naps are so hard and always veery short.
Please, help me to adjust EASY better. Is this something I'm doing wrong with schedule?
For several days she was settling for her naps in seconds, today it took her about 10 min for morning nap... Is it kinda regression?
Thanks for help!!

hi there hun,

I wonder if your LO is ready for a slight increase in A time?  Have you tried 2 hours in the morning by chance?  She may just need to stay up a bit longer in order to be ready for a longer nap.

Is she an independent sleeper at this point or are there any props involved?

I'm not sure about increasing A time... usually she lookes tired in 1,5... but in the evening sometimes she goes 2-2,5 hours of A.
She is a small baby, she was born 6lbs, so that is why I think the schedule for 3 months works better. But I'm not sure if the weight matters...
For example yesterday in the evening I new that we will have a battle for the last 4th nap and so I went for a walk with her in the carrier (there she sleeps great of course). she was very quite and alert all the time and slept 20 min only after 3 hours of A!
and then was settling for 40 min for her bed from 7.50pm till 8.30 pm. She woke up at 6.30 today.

Should I move her BT earlier?
And BT should be the same every day no matter what time she wakes in the morning?

Thanks for reply!!

Hi again! I was watching my LO today and I have to do something with our routine. Today for the first time she was absolutely hysterical for her BT. I suppose she was sooo OT. So probably I should increase A time in the morning like you said. I'm really confused as the whole week I was doing ssh-pat and it worked perfect, today I even had to do PUPD, which made her even more mad it seems. We were struggling for the whole hour... I'm so upset.
As we are on 3.5 EASY (she can't eat in 4 hours still, 3.5 is max, usually 3.15). And her average nap is 1.5 (with help for it's extencion). I was looking at samples of EASY and nothing seems to fit us with such a pattern...

This is how was our day today:
6.30 awake
7.00 E
A
8.10 S (1.5)
9.40 A
10.30 E
11.10 S (1.5)
12.40 - A
1.45 pm E
2.20 pm S (40)
3 pm A
5 pm E
5.50 S (15 min in carrier during walk)
6.30 - bath
7 E
7.15 - in bed started fussing and became hysterical, had to do PUPD
20.10 - S

and this is pretty typical day, especially with last nap... I gave up fighting for it and just take a walk or go to the store and take her in carrier and sometimes she naps 15-20 min.

Any advice will be gold for me!
I'm scared what will happen tomorrow as this was first time of such hysterics, I'm afraid she won't like her crib any more again (today was first day i took out bouncer from there and naps were just fine, i was so happy, but now this...)

Thanks!!

It's me again :)
I don't know how to break this OT cycle, this seems so hard. After I did PUPD for the night yesterday, she woke up in one hour and then in one hour again... I fed her at 10pm. And at 11pm took her to my bed (we cosleep at night).

Usually she sleeps in her crib from 7.30-8pm till 10.30 pm and then I take her to my bed. But it was such a mess yesterday...

Today I tried to extend her first A time even she seemed tired already after one hour. So it was 2 hours, she settled herself in 5 min and woke up in 30 min, I did shh-pat for 30 min and now she is in dip sleep, let's see how long she lasts...

I'm already scared of our BT! I was keeping log as soon as was starting EASY, so her average day sleep during this weeks was 4 hours (last days 4.20) and night sleep 10-10.30. So in total it is aroung 14 hours.

It seems to me that she is tired all the time if such is possible. In generally she is a very happy and smiley baby, I rare hear her crying, so for me last night was such a nightmare...

Please, help to understand what I'm doing wrong and how to help my sweet daughter!

Thank you!

hugs hun - I know how tough the sleep training piece can be - especially with all that crying  :-\  It will get better!

In looking at your routine, to me it appears that she is OT by bedtime.  Your naps look good overall, but the last A times to bed are causing OT I believe.  Do you typically wake her from the 40 min catnap or does she wake on her own?  I am thinking if we can get that extended a bit, and then bring BT up a little then we can prevent the OT and hysteria.  Since her day starts at 6:30, you will want to try to shoot for a 6:30 bedtime if possible.

Maybe we can start there and see if anything improves - hang in there!

From the catnap she wakes herself and it's impossible to extend it, well. I tried shh-pat as usually and it never worked. I'm trying today to change little bit our routine, let's see how it goes...
Thanks for help!
