when to start trasition to 4 hr easy? when did ur LO change?
« on: March 08, 2011, 17:57:42 pm »
my LO just turned 12 weeks and am starting to think about and wonder about 4 hr easy, even though some days we dont always go 3 hrs on every feed (and some times go a little longer). so are u supposed to start the transition a little before 16 weeks so that ur there when u get to 4, or really just try to watch lo for clues even if it ends up being a little after 16 weeks? how many moms Lo's were really on time with this transition?

My first LO went from 3.5hr EASY to 4hr EASY at 13 weeks.  She just did it. Maybe try it one or two days and see how it goes - ?  The only hard part will be A time... sometimes if my LO was too tired to stay awake the entire A time she'd go EASA...EASA...  it's like eating is part of the activity time.

Yes, this is what you really want to do.  All LO's are a little different.  Some like longer A times and go to a 4hr EASY sooner, but some are BF and won't get to 4hr feeds for quite some time so like PP said you would be more like EASA.  Most times moms realize it is time to up the A to get to 4hrEASY bc  naps start to get really funky and short of you don't extend A enough.

it's like eating is part of the activity time.
This is exactly true.  It is better to think of A time as Awake time (eyes open to eyes shut) instead of just activity time.

Hope that answers your question!

Hi,

It also depends upon whether they are EBF or formula fed. My DS didn't make it to 4 hours until I started topping him up with formula at 24 weeks (due to weight loss issues). I think if he'd remained EBF he would still be on 3.5 hours!
