Reflux meds high in sals?
« on: March 10, 2011, 12:32:17 pm »
So since the other day Alyssa was reactin to something again but couldnt figure what wasn't untill we filled her perscription did I figure what it could be

Didn't you say before about Ranitidine the peppermint flavour in it being high in sals?

when he reflux started back up we started giving her the ranitidine again and then after that she started reacting to something?

we had a quick look online and saw that some mint flavours are but since im positive it was you who said origanally to me I would check.

Hey honey what reaction did you get, was it a skin reaction?  Highly possible to react to the flavouring I think!!  Your poor little DD must be so sensitive honey xx

Face rash and bad poo not the same kind like Sophina has which is the bright red face but like excema on her face

Its the only thing I can think of thats different

The poo burnt her bum like which Sophina used to have with dairy AND Toms/strawberrys and other very high Sal foods

We cant stop the Ranitidine cause the reflux is so bad right now though if it is that I dunno maybe keep an eye, i mean she reacted to Neocate but got used to it, but I dont know how strong the Sals in the ranitidine is, when she was taking before we hadnt take out the eggs soy or nuts so wouldnt of noticed anything else

Poor thing  :-\

Yes the peppermint flavouring is no good for sals intolerant bubs and she sounds as though she would react to that.  Especailly the rash as you've seen it as a sals reaction before.  We got aroudn this by finding a compounding chemist and got the ranitidine prepared as a compounded suspension with no flavouring or preservatives for that matter.

It took a week for the ranitidine to come into stock so we just had to use the Zantac until it was ready  :-\

no she is just on the ranitidine, when we got all the intollerence under control the reflux was under control  but as she hit 4 months its like she was as a newborn all over again

me and husband discussed it lastnight and we will give the ranitidine a week as she might settle on it like she did the neocate although if she carrys on like she is now i will be phoning pead anyway

Yup might be that the increase in milk volume is causing an increase in acid production and something more effective may be in order!

Hugs honey

Can you remind me what sal foods are - DS can't take dairy (hopefully just millk but on dairy free diet just now), soya, citrus fruits, carrots and sometimes tomatoes so sounds like it could be sal foods (I think) .... hopefully he will outgrow it like DH did (both got burnt bottoms from these foods, and DS gets loose stools with dairy and soya) ....

thanks :)
