chew and spit

Hello!

Hattie will be 10mo in two weeks and she has been given finger foods for the last month and a half.  She has never SWALLOWED any finger foods.  She will take them into her mouth with her fingers, will chew them and then spit them out.  After which she will proceed to do it all over again until all the chewed up food is in her lap...

should I be concerned about this?  I also give her purees so she has something in her stomach.  Should I just cut them out altogether so she learns that she needs to swallow to get a full tummy??

I don't think you should be concerned.  She is obviously learning how to put the food in her mouth and chew it.  I'm sure swallowing will come with a bit more time.  As for the purees, does she enjoy them?  Are they smooth, or do they have a bit of texture?  I don't think you should have to stop them if it's something she likes, but maybe try offering different textures and consistencies, and definitely keep offering her lots of finger foods so she can keep practicing.
