My 5month old wakes constantly during the night. She is BF and takes one bottle of formula before bed. She is on a 4 hour EASY which is going well (most days). She is up for the day at 6 or 7 and she has a bedtime routine and goes to bed at 7 pm. She is put to bed awake for naps and bedtime and can go to sleep on her own most times. I am SURE she is not teething and is not in any pain during the night.
So, the problem is this. I am positive that shh/pat and seeing mommy or daddy has become habit. She wakes up fussing and if left she will not go back to sleep on her own. She cries harder and harder. Until we come in to see her. Then she needs a couple pats and thats it and she is back to sleep. It doesnt matter when we go in if she is fussing or left until she really cries, she just needs a few pats and she is back to sleep. But if we dont go in, she MIGHT go back to sleep but then is up again in haf an hour, over and over again.
I DO feed her at night. My rule is nothing before midnight and no more than every 3 hours. It usually turns out I feed her 2 times during the night. I am fine with this.
What I need help with is what do I do about all the other times she is waking and needs intervention to go back to sleep? I have NO idea what to do. I am tired of going in so many times just to pat her a couple times. I want her to SLEEP!!! I am ok with a couple night feedings and enjoy it, but having her wake so much for NOTHING (except comfort) needs to change at some point. I cant figure out how to beat this.
She usually starts waking about 2 hours after she goes to bed.
Her naps are pretty good now. She sleeps 1 1/2 - 2 hours. She feeds every 4 hours. She is not fussy during the day.
Please help, I have no idea how in the world to get this to stop!! She was sleeping until 2 am before (well, last time she did that was when she was 3 months) but I know she can do it, so what do I do to beat this habit? We are really tired of going in to pat her so often.
Thank you soo much
