Neocate extreame nappy rash
« on: March 26, 2011, 15:12:24 pm »
Alyssa after 5 consecutive bottles of Neocate (she used to have it neocate breastfeed, neocate breast feed iykwim)

her poo is giving her very bad froo froo and bum

We expected a bit of mucas because every time we increase her neocate she has a minor reaction but her bits are all red and swollen and when we wiped it she cried out ths is the worst nappy rash we have had

we have had the bright red "burn" like before  with plain dairy  but its never made her bits go so red and swell

Ive put bepanthen on, is there anything more I can do to bring this down a bit quicker

Ouch :(

I thought neocate was meant to be fine for all babies?

In terms of nappy rash I found Kamillosan was the best and nice and gentle (good for sore nipples etc too!).

Lots of nappy off time too.

Interested to hear what others say .....

I dunno about fine for all babys but we have found she needs time to get used to it every time theres been an increase, she does settle on it after time bt this is the biggest sudden increase, its usually 1 bottle a time

DS has an allergy to cow's milk, which the GP didn't agree with  ::) , and had a horrendous rash just like you describe for weeks and weeks (until I took him off cow's milk myself). We used Metanium and found it to be the only thing that helped, it was great.

Metainum is that the horrible staining yellow stuff

Did you know you can request a dietion apt even if your gp doesnt agree with you, dd#2 our dermo specilist hv told us it wasnt dairy issues and we were going to stop her bones forming  and we got her to reffer us to a dietion who confirmed dairy issues and the dermo never sent us a follow up apt haha

My DS had very bad rashes from his Nutramigen poops if we didn't change him immediately after he pooped.  Fortunately the stench of those poops meant that we couldn't bear not to!!! LOL!  Our consultant paed just said that the rashes were common on babies that were very atopic or sensitive and it was because of the way the body digests the hypoallergenic formulas and that it was not a sign of him not tolerating the formula.

We used metanium on the rashes, a VERY thin layer, it must be rubbed in so that you can see the texture of the skin through the cream.  A tube lasts forever because you don't need much - it will heal the sores quickly, an overnight application is best and some of the worst rashes I've seen in DS have cleared after 24 hours with metanium.  Then on TOP of the metanium a good thick layer of sudocrem as a barrier, so no more urine can get in and cause more burning. The two in combination work quickly, especially overnight, and provides some soothing relief, too!

HTH!

Then I would use the metanium with a good thick barrier cream over top of it...I don't know any other barrier cream brands though.  But the metanium is for healing, not prevention, so it alone is not enough to stop a night time rash or the few minutes of poo sitting on her before you get to change her, iyswim.

Vaseline is a good barrier too.  MAke sure any cream you apply is a thin layer as too much stops the skin breathing.  Hope it is better soon
