What does mucos in stool look like
« on: March 28, 2011, 01:21:20 am »
Sorry ladies, but I have no idea what mucos in stools will look like.

We're dealing with medicated reflux, currently I've been dairy free 1 mo+ and still struggling.  The ped asked if she has blood or mucos in her stools and I immediately said no.  Later While changing her diaper I decided I'm not sure.  It is consistent in color, (I expect mucos to be strings of white) but it is stringy...sorry if this is tmi, but when I pull the diaper away from her bum small strings of poo are strung from her bum to her diaper.  I always just considered it stool.  Is it mucos?  What does mucos in the stool look like?

Honestly, in my experience mucous in stool looks like someone blew their nose in the diaper - so it would be stringy, clear or whitish, in various amounts. When Dylan has grapes he tends to get mucousy stools, and it looks just like poop and snot mixed in the same diaper :-X

The problem with ebf baby poop is that it's quite loose to begin with (rather than the formed stool in ff babes) so it can be tough to tell. If you go over to the breastfeeding board there's an FAQ called the scoop on poop, and there are some pictures of different abnormal poops of you wanted to have a look.

And (((hugs))) on the dairy free - it's quite a pain :P if you're having trouble with anythig specific let me know; I was dairy free for a while and Dylan still is so I will help if I can!

Thanks Vikki-
That's more what I was thinking, but then I decided I was not sure anymore. (sleep deprivation does that to one!)

The dairy free is going better than I expected.  I complained a lot about it before and in the beginning, but I've found substitutes (often use avacado in place of cheese on sandwich, almond milk on cereal), I still crave a piece of pizza in a serious way.  We also have so many meals that milk is an ingredient of.

Do you have an experience with dairy free pancakes?
I've been looking for a recipe.
Thanks!
Sarah

I just use oat milk to replace cows milk in recipes and they are usually fine! I also use dairy free margarine for baking and everyday use.  Watch out for some hidden dairy, like in salt and vinegar crisps and cold sliced ham!!

This is pretty gross, but if you want to see examples of mucousy poop then you can look here: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=157413.msg1756874#msg1756874. There's also some good info in here: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=157413.0.

Hi, I found the biggie that I missed when dairy free was cheese - there is no real sub for that!. There are loads of milk substitutes which can used in cooking.

I use Becel vegan margarine for everything (dairy free!).

For quick pancakes I use bisquick, soy milk, and applesauce or mashed bananas (as fruit to increase nutrition and as an egg substitute for that allergy). Super quick and reasonably healthy :)

Our mucous doesnt have any colour it just is stringy in the poop, often when we wipe the poop off the bum it will stick and be like your wiping snot iykwim

but if the poop is alot and loose its a bit hard to notice tbh

Yes that's the main way that mucus leaves the body...and at teething time too you expect a little mucus to appear.

Thanks for the links...they help a lot.  and for the food ideas too.  I've gotten more used to the dairy free than I ever thought possible.

Great to know - thanks :) :) :)

Sarah - glad to hear you are managing dairy free too - the only time I find it daunting is going out for meals, or especially a snack (especially when I love cakes and ice cream etc etc!!)
