Snack ideas at playgroup...
« on: March 31, 2011, 13:01:11 pm »
Hi there,

DD has just started at playgroup and I am on 'duty' soon.  Part of our duties are to buy and prepare a healthy snack for approx 20 kids.  They normally have fruit/crackers etc.  Just wondered if anyone had any other ideas for something a little different, that is easy to prepare.

TIA,

Siobhan

Mini muffins, like blueberry or banana. Yum!

I usually do cheese, crackers & fruit, I buy loads of nifty shaped cookie cutters and cut the cheese in fun shapes or do tiny sandwiches in shapes.  Last year I was the only parent bringing a healthy snack, this year I notice more and more are bringing things like veggies & dip, yogurt & fruit, or healthy muffins. (they don't require that the snack be healthy...really bugs me when at 2:30 pm my 4 year old is being fed chocolate cake!!)

You can make a mix of healthier cereals. A friend of mine does this for her kindergarten class and calls it funfetti. LOL. Like a trail mix. Or go ahead and make a trail mix if the kids are old enough to handle the smaller, firm, pieces. You can skip on nuts if there are allergies. Raisins, craisins, plain popcorn, cereals, etc.

Love the ideas laies - thank you all sooo much.  Need to avoid nuts/pineapple and strawberry due to allergies but the rest sounds great and I think they would love the funky shapes too.  They are only there until 11.30am so just a wee snack to tide them over till lunchtime.  They are all 2 yrs - 3/4 years.

Cheers,

Siobhan
