Hi

We've got into a bit of a mess since staying away for those three nights. She's waking at least three times a night and is generally very unsettled. Yesterday she had an am nap of 2hrs 10mins, today it was 40mins. Todays A time was 15mins longer than yesterdays (3hrs 15). She's just all over the place. I have no idea what naps will be like and no idea what the nights will be like. She isn't taking much for the df so I'm wondering whether to drop it. It's really hard to know what to do??!!??

Well, if you wait for everything to be settled before dropping night feeds you'll be waiting a long time! My advice is always to just go for it.

Sorry, another question......should I just drop the df and the NF tonight and ride it out? Or drop the df for a few night then drop the NF? I just worry that she'll be hungry if I do it all at once.

Whatever you prefer. Yes he might be hungry but hunger passes, and he's not going to waste away. But if you prefer to drop one then the other, that's OK too. Just do it quickly, a couple of nights.

Hey there

so sorry your having such a tough time again - sounds like she is caught up a little in an OT loop... at least once you get those NF dropped she will be more settled eventually in the day cos it will soon make her sleep thru when she knows theres nothing exciting to wake for!!

what are you going to do to wean them - PU/PD?

How do I break her out of the loop? I managed to get  her back to sleep this morning, so she had two 45min naps with half an hour in between. I did have to AP the second nap though as I knew she needed more sleep.

She's just gone back to sleep now (3pm) so I'm hoping for over an hour.

Yes, I'm going to try pu/pd in the night but I hold my hands up and confess that I don't do it exactly by the book. I always put her down awake but she's drowsy, maybe thats why we're still having problems! What do I do if she's hysterical? And is it ok to sleep in her room, we've got a bed next to her cot?

She's only had 30mins this afternoon despite me trying to get her back to sleep. I guess its another early BT.......

I wouldn't sleep in her room, you don't want to exchange one prop for another.

With the PUPD I'd try it 'by the book'. You may find it works. She needs to calm down in her cot, not in your arms. At this age you will hardly pick up very much at all, just for a few seconds if she's really hysterical - you'll spend most of the time trying to settle her in her cot.

Ok, I'll be strict and do the wind down then into her cot before she becomes drowsy. With settling her in her cot, I mainly just stroke her head or back and hum or shhh, is that ok?

I did it all properly at bedtime, only picked her up twice when she became really upset. It took about 45mins for her to go to sleep which was better than I thought!

She woke at 9.30pm and it took until around 10.30pm to settle her. I was expecting a terrible night but she slept through until almost 5am! I fed her and she went back to sleep until 6.15am. Much better than I thought
