it is now 7:35 pm , DH has just came down and said that he thinks we need to leave DS to cry as every time he goes into his room he fuels DS’s. I know what he is saying as I have been upstairs for the last 2 nights and I can hear how DS reacts when DH goes in and leave the room.  So is there an alternative to WI/WO for such a stubborn child? Seriously, he has known how to fall asleep by himself since 5 months of age. It is not that we are trying to teach him how to do it for the first time????

I don't know why I bother posting tbh. Nothing works with this kid. BT is a mess, nws and not even the groclock works. Every morning I have to hear the cry and sit there with him until the sun comes up. Its just crazy. Last night he resisted BT for 1 hour. So he fell asleep just after 8pm then had a nw from 12am until 1:35am and is up at 5:30am. The groclock was set for 6am. Then I had to change for 5:45am as he is waking up at around 5:30am. You would have thought that he was going to sleep longer this morning because of the horrible night but no, he has to be up at 5:30 am,  before the clock, regardless. So yesterday he had a whooping 9.5 hours sleep overall(1.5 hours nap +8 hours night) Argh! Sorry about the rant.

Oh hun :(  I *totally* know how you feel.  I also know the feeling of not wanting to bother to post, but it does help to let it out and don't worry I will never get sick of trying to help you!

Is he with you today?  I would do an earlier nap let him have 2hrs (if he'll do it) and do a slightly later bt.  I know you probably feel like you are clutching at straws but I guess something has to work :-\  Does he wake crying all the time?

O is kinda sleeping better - I have put it down to two things.... *all* teeth in and I know there are a few mums here who would also testify that is the case *and* no nap - he pretty much doesn't nap now at all.

Just wanted to offer up some {{Hugs}}

Have skimmed over this thread but apologies if I repeat something that's been said  ;)!

So is he still teething? I know you mentioned he's now dairy free...but that it doesn't appear to be making much difference to his sleep?

Does he nap every day? Just out of interest, did he transition early in his other nap transitions?

Thanks Laura :) DS is at home today. DH is off work and is looking after him for me as I have another exam tomorrow. Yes, I agree. I pretty much said the same to DH this morning. To let him nap earlier today and have a longer A time before BT to see if it works. I haven’t thought about a later BT but I will see how tired he is by normal BT time. It might be our lucky day and he may feel tired by 7pm. Who knows?!?!

He doesn’t wake up crying at nws , instead he moans and moans until it becomes a cry and then he is wide awake and take ages to fall asleep again. *sign*
My hope is that NAET will also sort out his NWs (see food allergies thread).

Glad to hear that O is sleeping better. There is hope for me then ;)

Thanks for the hugs Sian  :) I really need them today! I’m so tired and still have 5 exams to write in the next 2 weeks :(
He still has 4 pairs of teeth to come. He is a very slow teether. But if this is due to teeth I just don’t get how teething can happen for over a year non stop ???? He never sleeps regardless of teething :(

Not sure about the dairy. It seems to make a little difference. I’m not brave enough to go back to dairy now just in case it gets worse. Lol

He does nap everyday and he def still needs his nap, especially because he wakes up so early. I don’t think he transitioned early for other nap transitions though. It was pretty much textbook for those.

Below is my dairy free link if you want to have a look.

Thank you again for holding my hand ladies

Is he on soy instead Grants?  We stopped the soy and that also helped things, we recently gave O soya yoghurts again and he was awake 3 nights in a row for well over an hour so we promptly stopped again!

Hi Laura. Thanks for asking and sorry for not replying sooner. I have been having exams and then computer problems.

Things here are still the same on the sleep front. I think there is something wrong with his health. That’s why I can’t wait to see the NAET therapist. I think NAET is my best shot atm.

M had 2 green poops (first thing in the morning) this week. Some nights it feels like he is having cramps???? DH thinks he is off the wrong thing (dairy). Maybe he has a problem with wheat and not dairy. But I can’t begin to imagine how hard it must be to cut wheat off a toddler’s diet. That’s why NAET is my only hope TBH.

Re: BT. He is def having a developmental thing about staying in his cot by himself. He is an independent sleeper and it doesn’t feel right the way he has been resisting it. DH did the WI/WO for  6 days in a row. I offered to do it last night and I can see something it is not right with the way DS is resisting BT. He started to hate his own bed. He dreads going in there???? So, after a few attempts and a very strange and upset refusal , I decided to stayed in the room with him and he fell asleep in a few seconds. I don’t think I should force him as I don’t want him to dislike his bed. He used to ask to lie down in the cot when he is ready to sleep but now he dreads getting into his room at BT????

Any tips on that?

I agree.  I think you need to stay with him for now.  It def sounds like something isn't quite right.  :-\  Although as you know I've gone round in circles myself with O and this....

What did the routine look like yesterday?

Hope your exams went ok :-*

Exams went well. Thank you for asking .2 down another 4 to go.lol

Earlier nap (10:10 till 12:15) then BT at 7pm asleep at 7:20pm(because of the BT resistance). Awake at 5:10am this morning. After all the tweaking I honestly don't think his Nws/Ews are due to routine. I think is something else TBH

It does sound like you've tried everything routine-wise & when that fails is does usually point to something else going on (just need to figure out what!)

Has he has a food intolerance/allergy test at all? Did he have any health issues when he was little (reflux/ MSPI etc?)...sorry if you've already covered this?

What exams are you doing BTW?

Hi Sian,

I don’t think he has an allergy as such but perhaps an  intolerance???? He hasn't had any tests. But I don't think there is a reliable test for food intolerances????
He never had any problems as a baby.
I'm going to take him for NAET allergy treatment but I'm just waiting for the practitioner to come back from her holiday.

What exams are you doing BTW?

Uni exams. For my BSc in Psychology.

As far as I know it's a food elimination diet that's usually recommended....not sure if you've come across the below website, I've used it quite a bit & found it useful....

Yes. That's what I thought too. Only food elimination. Thanks for the link though. :)
