Anyone have success with pin prick to increase flow?

LO uses Born Free Bottles.  #2 teat is sometimes ok, sometimes too slow and #3 is sometimes too quick, sometimes just right.  I don't know what to do.  She's reducing her intake either way once she's peeved off.  Its affecting her EASY (we have a post there but about EASY only). 

How do you actually do this.  I "know" how but I am scared to rip the teat.  HOw close to the original hole do you do it?  do you just do one?  I did it on my #1 teats to see and it doesn't seem to "make" a hole.  I'm confused???

I only did this when my two were older and the fastest flow teat wasn't fast enough any more. It did make a hole, difficult to see, but does make a difference when they suck.

At your lo's age I just went up to the next flow teat, and it took only a couple days for them to get used to it coming faster. I wouldn't switch between the two, she will just get confused and that won't help with her intake.

I know its confusing but she's not having any other problems except intake...she just leaves teh nipple in her mouth and doesn't suck, for sometimes 10  minutes (I checked).  She's not distracted.  My DH started changing the teat and she would start to suck again.

The pin prick just doesn't work!  We have been just been consistent with the #3 nipple and nothing has changed so far, 3 days.

I'm wondering if 1) because her A time has increased to 3 hrs, if she just needs to feed less often and that will up her intake?  or 2) if the DF is causing her to want less in the day?

She rarely finishes her 6 oz bottle but we give her only 5 oz during the night.

Can you post your EASY, make sure you include feed times and amounts and we will have a look!

Just wanted to add here that I recently had the same issue with Megan between size 2 and 3 teats. What happened in the end was I just stuck with a size 3 and after a week or so she was much better. All the changing was just confusing her and leading to more choking when I did use a 3 as she was sucking too hard for it.

But I agree that it is likely the DF that needs weaning, and just leave the teat alone at a size 3.
