So we are plugging along.  So far this week:

Monday:
Wake 6:45am
Nap 12-2pm
BT 7pm

Tuesday:
Wake 6:35ish
Nap 12:30-1:45pm (took him a long time to settle and he wouldn't take a  AM CN)
CN 4:55-5:10pm
BT 7:15pm

Wednesday:
Wake 6:30am
CN 9:40-10am
Nap 1:35-3:15pm
BT 7:15pm

Thursday:
Wake 6:30ish
No CN
Nap 12:30-2pm (he has a long time settling when PD after 12pm...had to due to DD's PU)
BT tonight probably around 6:45pm so he's asleep by 7pm

**how do you think this looks so far?  It is so hard to gauge and I'm tired of logging, I never see patterns.

I think it looks just fine.  He's really probably ready to go to a set nap time of about 12 pm or so, and then you can see if it starts lengthening a bit and only do a CN if he wakes closer to 6 am.  But, I know you still have DD's schedule to think about, so obviously you are doing what you can.  It does look like going past a 5.5 hr total A in the morning causes him to be a bit OT (hence the trouble settling, and a shorter nap), but overall, I still think your both doing well. :)

Thanks Katie, I agree if I PD around 11:45am and he has that 15 min or so to settle then he seems to do better rather than picking DD up at noon and throwing him in bed.  It then takes him 30 min. or so to settle and at that point he's been up 6 hours.  We only have 4 more days of school over the next 2 weeks.  I know I have said this before but it seems like the EBTs work for awhile and then his WT becomes earlier and earlier.

What time would you do BT if he sleeps 12-1:30/1:45pm?  I think with DD we did 6:30/7pm...is that pushing it too much?  I'm trying to stay within 13-13.25 hours of sleep and so far we are doing okay.

I think that sounds just about right.  I definitely wouldn't go past 7 pm, but 6:30/45 pm is pretty reasonable.  The early BTs shouldn't last too long, once he gets fully settled into one nap.

So we have been getting WUs around 6:45am or later and I PD for a nap yesterday at noon but it either took him 40 min to fall asleep (I was outside with DD) or he woke up after 40 min crying, either way he was crying when I came in at 12:48pm for only about 5-6 min and then he went back to sleep for an hour.  So up at 1:55pm.  Today he WU around the same time and I PD at noon again and he is played till about 12:25pm.  Not sure if he is UT or OT when I PD at noon.  THe nap today was one hour and then we left him for another hour but he just cried.  So 12:25-1:25pm.  I can't remember when they lengthen...after a couple weeks, months?

BT tonight around 6:30pm.  We really need a good nap tomorrow since we have a b-day party an hour away from 3:30-5:30pm so EBT will be tough and a CN won't work either with having to leave for the party at 2:15/2:30pm.  Maybe I'll PD around 11:30 so he's asleep for sure by noon.

This whole one nap thing is so different than with DD.

I think it's different for each child on how long it takes to lengthen that one nap.  For us, it was about 3 weeks.  It is hard to tell at this point if it's UT or OT.  It would seem like UT if he woke and wasn't able to get back to sleep, but the crying part sounds like OT, so I'm not sure either. :-\  Sorry!

What are his nights looking like?  Is it possible he's getting some teeth?

Yesterday and today he was up between 6:30/6:45am and I PD at 11:50am and he pretty much went right to sleep from 12-2pm.  Did BD at 7:15pm last night since we got home late.  If he does a 2 hour nap than I'm thrilled with that, it's just so hard if it is less.

Last night:
7:30pm asleep
5:30am heard him talking but he must have gone back to sleep
6:30/6:45am awake for day

*about 11+ hours per night

Yes, I'd say a 2 hr nap is right on, and it sounds like if you can get him down a little before noon that helps.  It's funny how just 15 min can still make a difference.  The shorter naps are really tough and sometimes day busters, but hopefully as he gets more into the routine of just one nap, you shouldn't get too many more of those.

So he was up maybe around 6:15am today so trying for a CN right now.  Today is a school day....not sure how he'll make it to 12:15/12:30pm.

We continue to have 6:15ish WUs.  He is exhausted and his naps are now about 1.5 hours so we've been doing the EBT but the result is the EWUs.  Today I PD for a CN and it took 40 min to fall asleep and I woke after 10 min.  So...

Wake 6:15am
CN 10:25-10:35am (PD at 9:45am)
Nap (PD at 12:45pm but is still playing 40 min later)

**Guess this tells me we need to stick with the one nap b/c even a 10 min CN screws things up.  We are suppose to be at a BBQ around 3pm.  So annoyed.  I just knew the EBTs would cause the EWUs but not sure how to go from here.

Sorry I missed this, was OOT for the weekend.  Unfortunately, I don't know that I have lots of inspiring advice.  :-\  The only thing is, if you're doing a 6:30/45 pm bedtime, 6:15 am isn't really considered an EW.  He's still getting 11.5+ hrs of sleep.  But, I know it's hard to then get to the one nap with the earlier wake.  It's such a hard spot to be in.

I think staying with one nap and getting it to lenghten appropriately is your best bet.  Otherwise, you're going to have to push that first morning A out for the CN (probably to about 4 hrs), but then that starts to mess with the rest of the day.  Is your DD done with school now?  If so, I might be inclined to just stick to a set nap time (of about 12 pm), and adjust bedtime accordingly depending on the nap (6:30 ish for a shorter nap, and 7/7:15 for a longer one).  How does that sound?

Katie you are probably right.  I think OT has set in since we have been pushing him too much.  We have not been as good with the 6:30pm BT but we might have to go with it for now, it started resulting in the earlier WUs.  I so hate this transition that i feel like we have been in for so long.  When can you start to push out BT?  What would you consider a successful 2-1 transition?

Tough questions!  I think it totally depends on the kid.  Mine is sensitive to OT, so pushing out bedtime has to be very slow and done only when she's had several decent days in a row.  Others can handle it better, and then will more easily start to adjust the rest of their day.

A successful transition, I guess, is when he settles into a somewhat consistent nap length and bedtime.  It really is a tough and long, drawn out process sometimes.  We didn't fully go to one nap til 17.5 mo and still had a 2 nap day thrown in here and there til 2 yrs.  I know how it feels to just want it to end!! :-\  (((Hugs)))!!

Today was pretty decent after all:

Wake 5:55am
CN was a no go
Nap 11:50-2:20pm
BT (asleep) 7:20pm

That looks good!  Are you able to try to stick to the ~12 pm set nap time for awhile?  I think that sticking with something more set is probably going to help him even out a bit now and you feel less frustrated with the whole transition.
