How will I know?
« on: April 10, 2011, 08:57:31 am »
My LO is 8 weeks today and normally wakes once at 3am and about 6am but recently he is waking at least twice during the night and then again at about 6/7am. How do I know whether he is hungry or just wanting... Me? He has a bf and I pop him down and he goes back to sleep, apart from the 6am feed where he has a cry for a few minutes and then sleeps. I don't want to keep running to every cry but how do I know the difference?

Sorry I it seems a stupid question!

Your LO is still very young and will have a number of GS over the next few weeks when he will want to feed more frequently. If this is the case then it should settle down in a few days as your supply catches up with your LOs needs.

Other than that, what I would say is that as long as you are working on him sleeping independently for daytime naps and BT (so you know he's not looking fed because he needs it to fall asleep), I would just feed him at this stage. It is pretty normal at this age for LO to need more frequent NF

Now... If you're in complete doubt if it's hunger and you really think it couldn't be (like, if he has just fed 1 hour before), then I would try to resettle him first and see how it goes. If it doesn't work then you feed him.
