just a couple questions
« on: April 20, 2011, 15:07:16 pm »
I read the FAQ board, but still had a couple questions....

What should I do if my LO wakes up but doesn't cry and is just laying there with open eyes in the beginning of a nap? Do I go in and try to get him back to sleep or just let him lie?
What should I do if he does this at the end of a nap? Take him out and start routine or just let him lie?

What should I do if he wakes up fussy/little crying but goes back to sleep - and this goes on every 15 minutes? Again...do I try to help him settle into further deep sleep or just let this happen?

Does it mean anything if he's consistently waking and often times needs resettling 1 hour into his nap? (which would be approximately 2 hours from eating)

Hello

If he wakes up but isn't crying, I would leave him be. If it's at the beginning of a nap, he may not be tired enough yet and you could look at extending his A time a wee bit. Does he go to sleep if you leave him?

Regarding the end of a nap-depends on how long he slept..if it was a full length then I would let him lie/play there for a bit so he gets used to the idea of being able to entertain himself for awhile, but then start your day.

If his nap was on the short side, leave him and see if he goes back to sleep.

When you ask about him waking up fussing every 15 mins, are you sure he's actually up? Some babies make a lot of noises in their sleep. Again, I would leave him unless his noises turn into cries.

And in response to your last question, I'm not sure....perhaps this is actually around the 45 min mark of him being *truely* being asleep and therefore he's coming out of a sleep cycle...?

Hope some of this helps. :)

Thanks for the response, Smurfette :)

His A time is about 60 minutes and by 60 minutes he's usually fussing so I'm not sure about extending his A times. He hasn't been lying awake recently thought, so, maybe it's nothing to worry about really.

Yes, sometimes he cries/fusses every 10-15 minutes but now I'm pretty sure it's a mantra cry. For a few days now, I've been leaving him be and not going in like I used to. He might go through 4-5 rounds of mantra crying, but often times he usually falls back asleep.

I think you're right about the sleep cycle. I took notes for several days to see if I noticed a pattern and sure enough, i did. So I went in a little before he would wake and just laid my hands on him. If he started fussing, I gently patted and shushed. It seemed to help and I did it for a couple days. Ever since, I haven't had any issues!! Fingers crossed :)

Thanks again!!
Justine
