9 month old NWs - we're ready to tackle them! Advice needed!
« on: April 22, 2011, 12:39:07 pm »
We've decided to go hardcore with the nw's. DS is 9 months old and has been waking every 3-4 hours for the past 5 months. I am done!  ???

Did PU/PD, last night, after his first waking. Sine it was at 10pm, I figured we'd work on that one first. Took 1.5 hours to get him back to sleep. So he slept from 11:30 and woke again at 2:30am, just 3 hours later. I ended up feeding him here b/c this is when he normally is hungry. He ate and went back to sleep till 5:30am. Just another mere 3 hours. Ugh!

So....should I just keep this up until he is no longer waking at 10pm or should we just nip it all in the bud at once?! I'm not sure which route to go. My pedi suggested I don't feed him till 5:00am (he goes to bed at 7pm). He's a crier and having gone thru it for 1.5 hours last night was horrible.  :'( But...I want this nipped in the bud b/c he cannot be waking every 3 hours. His body is programmed too wake and it's completely behavioral. It's affecting his daytime mood, his naps, his nighttime sleep, his eating. Just about everything!

Any advice would be very helpful! TIA!

Personally, I would go cold turkey. It's clearer for him (there are no night feeds) and clearer for you (no having to figure out what to do if it wakes at midnight etc). Plus you'll get through it and come out the other side sooner.

What does it mean when the 2nd night is worst than the first? :(

I guess you just need to stick with it. Two nights is really too soon to make a judgement, it will take at least 4. Remember that at this age with PUPD you really don't PU at all - just settle him in his cot, lie him down if he is sitting or standing, and pick up just for a few seconds if he is really beside himself.
